If it's midnight your time you should be able to see the Blackberry Storm 2 9550 available to order on the Verizon Wireless website.
It's available for $179.99 after a $100 Mail-in Rebate (Instant rebate if you order online) with a 2 year contract.
Also, very exciting, the BOGO deal APPLIES. So yes, if you have two lines eligible or are willing to add a new line you can buy one Storm 2 at $179.99 and get the second one FREE. Get it while it lasts, no idea how long the BOGO will be available.
So if you're down for being an early adopter try your luck ordering now. There are intermittent reports of the website not allowing some people to upgrade but allowing others. It's kind of hit and miss at this point. I'm sure the site is being stressed to it's limits right now.
If you get to order one, are having trouble ordering, have questions about ordering, thoughts, comments, concerns be sure to post here.
This is a very exciting day, friends.
Personally, I'm waiting for Droid.

nmchileman, Excellent post! I went to the Verizon website, and there it is Storm 2 9550! But I can't do anything about it, since I just got Storm 9530 in May 2009. It has the v5.0 OS, that came out for Storm 1 on this past Sunday. I'm still happy with my Storm 9530. So anybody with upgrades grab it if the want!

Glad to hear you're happy with the original Storm. I've talked to many users who have done the update and most agree it's like a completely new phone and they don't really feel the need to upgrade right now.

Here is the setup ...
We live in North Central Florida.... I have Wildblue Satilite internet survice connected to a Linksys N+ router with 2 HP computers and 1 Lexmark wireless printer.
Here is the situation... We live so far out in the woods we have NO cell service in this area... At all...
Here is the question ... I was told by a Version salesperson that when the BB Storm2 comes out , It will allow me to connect to the router and utilze the internet AND I would also be able to make and recieve phone calls via the router/satilite .... Is this a sales pitch or will it work.? ? ?
If yes....Now It is out and info is still hard to come by, or is there a current phone (Verrizon) that will work ? ?
If no..... Is there a system that WILL work. ? ?
( the store said "we dont do loaners to see if it will work" and I cant afford a maybe......)

I don't know about receiving calls through the router/satellite. But the Storm2 has WiFi, so it may be possible to go "online" with it, and all blackberry phones require the data plan.

I just bought Storm2 here in Greensboro, NC. Its faster than my Curve. Faster than my friend's Storm. Has wifi but I dont think it is working. 3G seems a lil fast but the wifi is in gray mode. according to the manual:
Your connection to a Wi-Fi network is turned on, but you are not in a Wi-Fi coverage area.
What that does mean? If I go to Manage COnnections, the wifi is not checked. Has a dash " - " right next to it. I sometimes hate buying gadgets too early.

"Your connection to a Wi-Fi network is turned on, but you are not in a Wi-Fi coverage area." That should be pretty self explanatory. You have to be within range of a WiFi network to use WiFi. It's not like a cellular wireless network that's most available everywhere.
"If I go to Manage COnnections, the wifi is not checked. Has a dash " - " right next to it."
That means you don't have the WiFi radio turned on. Check the box and the radio will turn on and will allow you to connect when you get in range of a WiFi network.

You can use an application called Skype to make voice calls and it will utilize your WiFi connection, so you'll need a WiFi network set up. It's a service and application you may need to pay for, but it won't use any plan minutes. I don't know about over satellite. Your broadband connect needs to be pretty fast to handle qualify voice calls.

IM+ might be the only way to go at this point. I don't know if Skype ever directly released a beta of the official app. I know back in May/June of this year they were saying they were working on one and it would be available as a beta around that time.
If not, there are other alternatives. www.truphone.com and www.iskoot.com are worth checking out.
Personally I don't use these services, so I can't attest to their usefulness, ease of use or reliability.

I'll have to check those out. the abilty to make wifi phone calls while travelling would make me upgrade right away. Also, slingbox has never worked for the Storm. Any idea if it works for the storm2?

Slingbox currently does not have any support for either Storm device: http://www.slingmedia.com/go/blackberry
Slingbox has been pretty silent when it comes to the Storm. Don't know why. They did release a beta a while back. The beta must not have done very well because there was never a wide release. Maybe they were waiting for a Storm with Wifi? It looks like from their support page that most of the devices they support all have Wifi. And it even says at the bottom of the page: * Supported by SlingPlayer Mobile when used with Wi-Fi connection.

You can try a service like Skype. There are applications for this service but you will end up having to pay for the app or having the Skype service itself. But any usage with Skype would go over your WiFi connection, so there'd be no cap or minutes used.

It's Buy ONE Get ONE. Not Buy one get two. So that's the reason it's not showing up on the 3rd line. But I am showing that the BOGO is applicable. So make sure that the two lines you're trying to upgrade are actually eligible for upgrade. If it's still not showing via the website you may have to call in and order thru Customer Service, sans instant rebates.
