Need help and or suggestion....

Got a BlackBerry Storm 2 a few months again and about a month and 10 days into it the light bulb on the camera doesn't work. I read the warranty and it says I only have 30 days from activation to return it if it doesn't work properly. So I missed that and then about a month later a glass of water is spilled all over it

The phone works fine except the screen power button at the top. Sometimes you hit it and the screen with turn on and then off again. Hit it again and some times it does the same thing and other times it turns on as if it is working perfectly. Turning it off can be tricky as well. Turn off the screen....screen turns back on.

I have two questions...

Is there any way I can fix the problem myself or bring it into a store and have them fix it for free? Possible giving me a new phone or something. Not sure if it will show up as having water damage.

Also I am a "poor" college kid so I don't have a lot of money to buy the protection plan (Will do it next time however) but can I just buy another phone and insert my SIM card into it? I know Verizon does a phone thing where you can only buy one every 12 months. Can't find it though.

Any help would be much appreciated! :smileyhappy:

The 30-day window is only for returns or exchanges. If something stopped functioning, you can still get a warranty replacement within a year. That said though, you spilled water on it, so if a technician sees water damage, you might not be able to get a replacement for free.

I don't know what to suggest as far as fixing it yourself, because the water may have gotten inside and screwed things up. I would take it to a Verizon store and see if someone can help. One way to check for visible water damage is the indicator by the battery ... if the red ink on the X's has run and turned the paper pink, that's a telltale sign.

I never buy the protection plan either. You can buy another phone and activate it. It's not activated by a SIM card though, like GSM devices. You would instead do it online, or turn off the old phone and dial *228, option 1, from the new phone.

You can upgrade at month 12 if yours is the primary line on the account. Good luck!

So where is this water damage indicator? I don't see anything with a red X on it at all. Few white stickers but thats it.

Hi,

The moisture indicator sticker is located on the side of the battery.

Remove Battery look around the sides of the compartment for a 1/8 size little square that will be white or red. Then put phone in a ziploc with uncooked white rice. The rice will draw out the moisture. Do this for a couple of days. The battery maybe ruined because they short out in water.
