No More Blackberries?
SamanthaandAlvin

My husband had a droid and he received an offer this week to upgrade early to a 4g phone.. When we called customer service I asked why both of the lines could not be upgraded early. The rep said something about his data useage but that I would get an offer soon to upgrade early as Blackberry was no longer going to be for verizon customers.  He said they were going to be only for businesses.  Has anyone else heard this? I want to upgrade to a newer smartphone but unless I get an early upgrade I will be waiting til December.

When you say upgrade early, do you mean like an annual upgrade?  When are your upgrade according to your MyVerizon account?  Normally you can upgrade at twenty months into your two year contract.

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

BB has focused on govt sector but you can still have a bb on vzw. the rep just doesn't get credit for a droid to bb upgrade so he didnt want you to do it Smiley Happy

They are changing data plans,  they will be forcing you out of unlimited data if you have a "grandfathered" plan.  Make sure your husband isnt losing his plan by upgrading.

I only know that I am tired of dealing with my blackberry and wanted to upgrade early to an iphone4 and was told by an agent to order a new line and get the phone with a 2yr plan. Then when the phone came have it activated to the number I wanted and suspend the extra line so the extra line is 9.99 and the fee to suspend it is $25.00.  But that is far better than spending the 549 to 749 to purchase at full price.

Commonsense101 is correct. You can use any BlackBerry you want, but reps push Android devices.

See my reply in your other thread. You will still be fulfilling that two-year contract.

I totally agree with commonsense 101: the reps at the store are pushing the iOS (iphones) and Droid platform phones.  I still love my Blackberry; it does everything I want it to do and it is a secure system that hackers have largely ignored.  I recently upgraded my BB to a BB Bold.  The rep at the store kept hinting that I would love an iphone or a $349.00 Droid based something or other.  Then, when I made my purchase, all she did was activate my phone.  She didn't transfer any of my contacts or tell me properly how to do that--it was two days of frustration and anger before a nice guy from Verizon Tech Support walked me through everything.

Bottom line for me is: I love my BB's qwerty keyboard & combined with a slightly larger touch-screen, it's so easy to use.  I'm just not ready to kept swept away by the Apple/Droid juggernauts!

There is just something about BlackBerry that makes it impossible for me to permanently leave. Congrats on choosing what's right for you, instead of following the crowd. And you have one of the best devices out right now. Smiley Happy

I just got a Curve 9370 and I love it. It has a small screen but a great qwerty keyboard, without Touch screen. It does all that I want professionally and I am not at all suprised that it is going business only. That's where money is and that's where this less than spectacular games and movie device can be and is appreciated.

Its a niche market device anyway, but hopefully it will survive.
