OS 6 Input System Error System Is Being Restarted with Spell Check

I have a Bold 9650 running OS 6.0.0.431. When I use spell check I frequently get the message  Input System Error System Is Being Restarted. Japanese characters and fonts are installed, but the input method is (US) English only.

This problem did not occur until I upgraded from OS 5.0.0.975.

I've seen some posts on other forums that indicate this problem occurs when spell check can't find a suggested spelling and should display *empty*, but terminates with the error message noted.

Any assistance would be appreciated.
