Ok...I gotta rant here. I know that it will and this will probably cause world war III.
I get off the forums for a few days because I've been sick, and come back and start weeding through stuff. And it's like all VZW hating posts lately, gripe sessions. I just felt like I've read enough that I need to call **bleep** on some of them and put in my 2 cent's worth. And yes, I'll get flamed. And no, I probably won't respond to the flames.
"BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE: I don't get it. I've been with VZW for years...and also had a number of other companies in several places I lived. I've called CS a number of times with problems, and been in the stores. Had pretty decent experiences with all of them, as long as you treat them with respect, they've always been helpful. You can't call them screaming. I don't care what somebody says, you call me screaming and I won't help you either. I've always had the best COVERAGE with VZW (not all of us live in the center of the city), and they've always had the best service and performance/coverage. Oh, T-mobile was fine...good prices, etc., as long as you were on a main corridor. Same with Sprint. It's a "you pay for what you get" thing.
"I'M ON MY Xth REPLACEMENT": Now, I am sure there are some true stories about getting a couple of duds, but sometimes I think somebody maybe should call **bleep**. You don't have the same problem crop up on 4 or 5 units of much of anything equipment-wise. When that kind of thing happens, there's usually something else going on in common, like a bad program that you put on each of them. Or some interference in your house. Something else. You may need to track down what's going on and eliminate stuff. But you won't get that many DUD units in a ROW like that. Nearly impossible just from statistics. It's got to be something that either you are doing, or not doing, or something external. Just doesn't make sense.
"I GOT CHARGED $X.00 PER TEXT ON AN UNLIMITED PLAN" : Again...something's not right. There are no text messages that cost that much, even if you don't HAVE a messaging plan. Maybe if you are getting overseas phone calls or something. But that doesn't make ANY sense. And if it happens, and you call CS and are nice, I'm sure it's no problem. It just sounds like there's something else going on here.
"WAH! THEY PUSHED SUCH-AND-SUCH ICON ON MY BB!": Well, my word. Big deal. It's in the contract that they can do it. It's only a shortcut, just don't install it. I'll bet you don't complain when Microsoft does that to your Windows (called "Windows Updates", my friends.) Get over it. Oh, yeah, they ARE making money by doing that...imagine that. THEY ARE A BUSINESS PEOPLE! If you want freedom, then go for an os that is open source. There's a few potential risks with things, but some better things too. But stop complaining about it.
I'm seriously not trying to offend anybody, I just keep reading all this stuff and trying to look at it objectively. And no, I don't work for them, either, I work for a civil engineering firm. But I try to help here on the forums when I can, and it just seems that a lot of them make some valid points, and a lot of them need to have **bleep** called on them. And some people need to quit whining so much. Read your plan, understand it. Ask if you don't understand it. Do a battery pull before you throw it across the room. Accept that you MAY have something going on; problems in your home, like interference/high tension wires outside/next door neighbors with a signal enhancer thats interfereing/who knows. Or that maybe you just don't know what you are doing, in which case people can help here, if you're nice.
Ok...off my soapbox.

Hi,
Good post. Kudos point to you. I'm sure a lot of us feel the same way, we just didn't post how we felt.

Thanks Doc.
I just get tired reading through posts which are nothing more than complaints, versus actual "how do I do this" questions. And I am definitely not above pushing the little red button sometimes, when I think I need to.
Sometimes, I think that part of the problem is that people don't see a smartphone as what it is, a pda with a phone. It's not a regular phone; It's a computer with a phone function, and with it comes all the bugs, OS gremlins, memory issues, having to reboot, etc., that any computer brings. People go in, buy the thing because it's cool, then freak out when they find out that it's more complicated than just a simple flip phone. And instead of asking questions in a civilized manner, they get frustrated and mad, and vent at those who are willing to help them.
Sigh.

I totally agree with you here. I recently started to help out in answering questions since it appears I can provide answers from my own experience to help other people out.
The thing is that from the griping, we are hearing the minority of the issues and not from the people that have not had problems. I do not know of any product/service where the customer satisfaction rate is 100%. Once in awhile there will be legitimate issues with a product but more often than nought, there is a "user error" involved. It is all understanding of how the product works that is needed. If they get to this point then from there on it is questions that are well thought out.

This is one of the best rants in these forums ever. Thanks.

I couldn't have said it better myself.

Well said, Geocritter. Kudos. And you forgot one: posts about data plans. I do not frequent these forums as often anymore because of all the threads about mandatory data plans (the BlackBerry forum's not as bad, but the other boards on this site are unbearable). They should all be put in one forum so the rest of us might converse about something worthwhile.
There are many injustices in the world: homelessness and poverty, child abuse and murder, loss of lives in a war, factory farming and animal cruelty. A data requirement is NOT an injustice. It's time to put things in perspective.

I'm glad to see I wasn't the only one who felt that way. I honestly was afraid that I'd be starting the mother of all flame wars when I originally posted.

You know, I wish we could make a "sticky" out of parts of my original post...kind of an FAQ or something. You know, do's and don'ts...like "always try a battery pull FIRST". Or "if you are having multiple-unit problems, check to see what's in common, like programs that you are putting on it. Or not updating. Or.." something. I dunno...just thinking out loud.

Actually NO you aren't the only one. I have come to be burn out because of all these Flamers and people who do not read to put / list their model phone and what OS, plus apps they have installed. It's really time consuming when you have to drag it out of them in order to help them, then wait until they post the answer, maybe days, and we are not getting paid to do this. I have a POST at the Top of this Forum to list the above mentioned items. Very few do it. Some are one time posters, POST their flame and then they are gone forever. So NO, Geo you are not the only one that feels this way. Sorry you have been sick, glad you are better now.

I agree 1500% with everything that you said. I especially get irritated when people complain about the service that Verizon offers. No company is flawless nor will there ever be one. Every carrier will have problems. Every phone has the potential to mess up. Every business has at least one disgruntled employee that is, unfortunately, the spokesperson for said company. If you don't like VZW that much, leave. No need to tell the unpaid, self help support forum supplied by the company you are going to leave. In fact, let me just say in advance that you won't be missed by me when you're gone. This way you won't have to say you're leaving then keep coming back to see if I or any of the other helpers here begged you to come back. Good luck with whichever company you decide to move to.
Now, I'll get off my induced soap box too.
(On a side note: I have very bad luck and have had to have my phone replaced x number of times with various problems. It is an embarassing number of replacements but my wife is the reason that I don't come here and complain and complain about it. She sums it up best when she reminds me of when I had a phone five years ago with seventeen problems and the guy at customer service writing it up for one of them. Someone most likely got that phone later as a refurb and I'd be willing to bet that one of the other problems came up for the new owner. It comes down to luck of the draw sometimes and an undiagnosed problem slipping through the cracks. My luck of the draw, however, is the reason I don't play cards. )

Developer, I hope you now have a device that works correctly. You have a good attitude about it anyway.
Another thing I noticed is every time I'm in a corporate Verizon store, the customers are awful, hot-headed people. What happened to manners? A couple months ago someone was helping me with a BB issue, and this guy next to me was screaming for the whole store to hear. Mainly about his phone being shut off for nonpayment ... yeah, that's how it works, buddy. Anyway, it was so embarrassing and uncomfortable, but the guy helping me was cool as a cucumber. Must be so used to it, they can just tune it out, whereas I'd go home and drink myself silly.

I disagree with some points. Although as you have stated you don't care to hear I would like to say that I had to have 8 Blackberry storm replacements. No I didn't download anything they Locked up and I was unable to use them I had ZERO apps downloaded just for that reason and every time the clock of death KILLED me . Now I was the **bleep** who stood in line the day it came out so I did recieve one of the first storms.
As for mistakes in billing well........Those are valid complaints and have happened to me. I get a 20% discount due to a contract my company has with verizon. They have for 6 months now failed to apply the discount to my bill even after repeated "nice" calls. I do understand you get more bees with sugar than with vinger but it does get frustrating when apparently someone isn't doing their job. =0)
Just saying....................... 😃

I rarely get into heated discussions, but I will say that I talked to a Verizon rep. on the phone last night in reference to a $1.99 data charge on my mom's cell phone. She has NO idea how to use intenet,so she must have hit a button by mistake.
The rep was not only very polite, he went in and blocked internet from mom's phone so no more "accidents" could happen. He said they would take off the $1.99 for the data charge, and today I recieved an email that the charge has been removed from my bill. Excellent service!
He also took the time to explain "unlimited data" to me. Since I intend to buy a Blackberry soon, he told me that the $29.99 data charge gets me UNLIMITED data ON MY BLACKBERRY. Only when hooking the Blackberry to a computer do the data charges apply after a certain amount is used. Since I have wireless internet at home, there is no need for me to ever tether my Blackberry to a computer.
The other 3 lines I have for family members are on very simple phones, and they will remain at $9.99 per month.
Oh, and I also get a 20% discount each month, and they have NEVER forgotten to take that 20% off my bill.
I will be sticking with Verizon.
