My sister has an old one that she's giving me. (Don't know type or anything, just 'blackberry') I don't do anything on my phones except call and text...no pictures, no email, no internet...my question is can i get this phone activated with NO 'special' blackberry plan? I don't want it and don't need it and with two small kids and a college student, definitely can't afford it...any HELPFUL comments appreciated

At this time, it's not possible to use a BlackBerry without the $29.99 data plan. It's not possible to even activate it without it being added to your plan. I know, not what you wanted to hear ... sorry.

Maybe someone else will chime in here, because I have read something about really old smartphones sometimes not requiring a data plan, but I'm not sure whether that applies to BlackBerrys. Good luck.
