Question reguarding data plan with an Alltel BB

I was formerly on alltel wireless but you must know alltel and verizon have merged. I am currently using a Samsung Hue II for alltel and it is kind of screwed up so I am looking into a refurbished replacement phone from the internet. I found a steal for a BlackBerry 8830 World Edition for Alltel. I am on verizon, and I know that all BlackBerries need a data plan but would I need a data plan for this blackberry being used on verizon? And if so am I able to cancel it after a month or whatever? Thanks.

Hi,

You will be required to activate a 3G data plan of at least $29.99 on the device.  As far as terminating your plan, there will be a termination fee.  Here is the policy... If you cancel a line of Service, or if we cancel it for good cause, during its contract term, you'll have to pay an early termination fee. If your contract term results from your purchase of an advanced device after November 14, 2009, your early termination fee will be $350 minus $10 for each full month of your contract term that you complete. (For a complete list of advanced devices, check verizonwireless.com/advanceddevices.) Otherwise, your early termination fee will be $175 minus $5 for each full month of your contract term that you complete. Cancellations will become effective on the last day of that month's billing cycle, and you are responsible for all charges incurred until then. Also, if you bought your wireless device from an authorized agent or third–party vendor, you should check if they charge a separate termination fee.

One more thing to add. The Alltel BB 8830 World Edition no longer is a global phone as of 12/31/2009. You should still be able to use this phone on CDMA networks, like Verizon's, but it will no longer operate on GSM networks. If you're looking to use your phone overseas, consider a BB Tour or Storm.
