Restocking Fee

Hey everybody,

I was reading online about restocking fee, and was wondering if there was a way to avoid it.  If you purchase a phone and RETURN it (not EXCHANGE it) within 30 days you are  not charged teh restocking fee?  Is it true if you wait 4 days, you are again elgible for the discount pricing on a new phone?

Thanks!!

Yes, you will not get charged a restocking fee for only returning the device. So once you return it you'll be eligible for upgrade again and you can wait 4 days and purchase a new phone and you would not be charged the restocking fee.

See, patience pays off doesn't it?

Please explain fuller. If I want to return my Storm within it's 30 days and have no service for 4 days then I can do the free $100 upgrade all over again and get the Storm 2? Because the store flat told me if I returned it within the 30 days for no defective reason, I would be charged the $30 or $35 restocking fee.

If you return your device within the 30day WFG window there is NO restocking fee. There is only a restocking fee if you're exchaing it for a different model or color. Or if you return the device and within 3 days purchase a new device.

So you can beat the restocking fee be returning the device, getting fully refunded and waiting 4 or more days to purchase a new device.

These conditions of the restocking fee only apply to direct VZW retail outlets. If you go to an indirect agent, authorized reseller or premium reseller these conditions will not apply. Usually they have their own restocking/return fee policies.

So, let me see if I have this correct....if I purchase the phone and RETURN it, possibly never to be seen or heard from again, I have NO fee, but if I exchange the phone which means I am sticking around, I have a $35 fee? Wow, this is great customer service and outstanding business savvy.

Hey,

Here is Verizon's Return Policy.  I'm sure this question will come up quite a bit in the next couple of weeks.

Well Doc, I hope the store EE's get the message, because when I asked my rep. in the store, he flatly denied 4 days or more would make any difference on the $35 return fee. But that is a cheap price to pay, anyway you look at it, for a STORM 2, right?

Hey, L,

I wanted to post the link to the policy for some of the folks who may have gotten a Storm with a Buy One Get One free promotion.  They would have to return Both phones.  Also, if a UPC symbol is missing from the box (rebate) then the price of the rebate would be subtracted from the refund amount.  I'm sure those questions will come up.

You know me as being a Tour fan, and not much of a fan of the touch screen, but I do have to admit, my curiosity is peaked.  I am going to have to run down when the Storm2 comes out to see if it was worth all the talk that has been in the forums.  We shall see.

i cant believe the restocking fee is $30 or $35 this year...last year it was $20. or does it depend on the device....

It doesn't depend on the device AND I was told that the fee applied regardless of WHEN I returned the phone, be it 3 days or 29 days. As long as it was returned within the 30 days WFG period allowed I was covered....however, the rep failed to mention anything about the $35 restock fee. So, for all of those who want to return the Storm 1 for the Storm 2 and you are within the 30 day time period, that is fine, but just know that you will be paying the $35 fee. There is an update to this story but I really don't even feel like getting into it, but I will within the next few days.

Thanks.
