Sirius/XM Radio for Blackberry

Hi, all,

I just wanted to let those in the forums know about another music service for the Blackberry.  It looks like Sirius/XM Radio has a new Blackberry app that will let you enjoy over 120 different channels of music and entertainment.  Right now, you can listen for free for 7 days and then you have to pay to enjoy the entertainment.  I have over the last couple of years listened to XM Radio in my car and enjoyed the music.  I know there are fans of Howard Stern, but I don't think that channel is listed in the moblie offering.  Also, the app is limited to a few of the Blackberry models and now does not include the Pearl or the Curve 8330, two of the most sold Blackberry models.

With that in mind, there is always other music services such as Pandora, Slacker Radio, iHeartRadio, and a couple of others that don't cost anything.  There are drawbacks, such as with Pandora.  With Pandora, the user is limited to 40 hours per month, a certain number of skips per hour, and ads on their free service.  Still, free is always better than paying.  So this brings me to my question to you, the Blackberry user.  What are your thoughts about your options for listening to music on your Blackberry?  Which service will you go with?

Okay Doc, I am a big fan of Pandora. I have never had a commercial on Pandora, but I have on Slacker. I also have never hit the 40 Hr limit. I like the artist choosing function as I have yet to not find an artist. I just did a search the other day for a really old English group called FAMILY. Their best album was Music in a Dolls House and Pandora found them. The lead singer sings in a sort of falsetto operatic style, but it is Rock! Oh an most important when ever we have an upgrade in OS Pandora once notified of a glitch with in 48 hrs or less as fixed their software to be compatible with the newer BB OS.

Since I'm still on the 8330, Sirius isn't an option for me, but I do love iheartradio! I've had that app for about six months and listen to it with Rocketfish Bluetooth headphones. Love the jazz and island music options, but there are so many categories, I haven't even listened to half of them yet.

Free unlimited Internet radio is one more reason people shouldn't complain about BlackBerry data plans.

FYI, you can listen to the Howard Stern 101 channel (West coast feed 3hrs behind Howard's live M - Th 6am 10am show) for free on the FlyCast app for Blackberry http://flycast.fm). I don't know how FlyCast does it, and I don't care :smileywink:

Since I'm a big fan of talk radio, iHeart is my favorite. I easily use close to 4gb data usage monthly, most of it for streaming audio.

My own opinion is that the Sirius/XM will be out of business in five years, if not sooner. Their commercial free format is not on all channels, certainly not on Stern's show. The novelty of satellite radio has worn off. New car sales, once the driving force in new radio subscriptions, are way off the past couple of years. Car buyers today now can choose from USB ports in their car systems for iPods, MP3  players and bluetooth options that synch with their phone's playlists. Plus, AM/FM radio is still free. With so many options, why would you pay for satellite radio? Sirius/XM has yet to show a profit. Plus Stern's deal ends this year with speculation that hey may jump back to terrestrial radio or retire, perhaps just a contract negotiating ploy. Certainly Sirius can't afford to pay him $500 million again (how much of that was stock options that are pretty much worthless?)
