Sound Transmission Problems with the Storm
DevilTiger
Newbie

Hey all, I am a new member to the forums, but I've had the storm since it came out and a consistent problem I've tried to suck up and deal with is: inconsistent sound transmission.  Anytime I talk, people have a hard time understanding me, regardless of volume, connection (all 5 bars lit up to 1 lit up) and/or inside/outside of buildings.

I'd like to know if this is a common issue, because this phone cost me an arm and a leg and since the beginning it has felt like little more than a mobile paperweight.  I love the text/email abilities of the phone, but it slows constantly (and I don't use multiple apps, I do have an 8gig simcard, etc).  Sometimes I have to wait 10-20 seconds for the phone to go from home-screen to the phone-dialer screen and it is not downloading/transmitting information.

I know this is a lot to throw at you guys and I'm not looking for a diagnosis for anything but the sound transmission quality.  The slowness I can deal with, the lack of being able to communicate with such an expensive phone I am not.

Thanks in advance for your ideas and wisdom, my next stop is the verizon store where i ask them to take it back and downgrade me to something that is worth the $$.

Hi, Devil,

Welcome to the forums.  First off the bat, try a battery pull to solve the slowness problem.  I would do that at least every couple of days.  As far as the sound problems, I will try and find you an answer.  Perhaps someone already has an answer and will post.  Either way, we will try to help you.

Devil,

I searched the net and found on the Blackberry forums your issue.  It seems a few folks were having the same or similar problem with their Storm.  Some ideas that were offered were being aware of your hand placement as it might be covering the microphone.  Also, if you have a silicone or type of cover on your device, it may hinder the mic.  The most popular idea that is proposed and the one I tend to agree with is that is might be a software issue.  You are running the 4.7 OS for your Storm.  The 5.0 release is rumored to address some of the sound problems with the Storm.  I think it will be available very soon, as in the next month.  RIM made a statement that it will be available by the year end for all of their phones that can support it.  I hope I gave you some kind of help.  Good luck.

My wife, I repeat my wife, is the only one who reports to me I sound muddy on my Storm. She is on a Sprint Katana 2 if that makes any differnce. My Daughter, has AT&T and a Treo, 1 of my Sons has I think a SONY/Ericksson AT&T and my other son has a Samsung I think, with Verizon. None of them has this problem. I honestly think my wife has her Volume set to low but I cannot tell her anything all she knows is it works and why am I always fidding with this new phone all the time since I got it 3 weeks ago?  LOL, So goes married life.
