Verizon taking care of original Storm customers? STORM Upgrade!

Just a little tidbit I found while doing some searching around yesterday on BlackBerry news from the Wire; The one downside of releasing a follow-upd device is that some of the original customers aren't happy.  They just got the device a year earlier and since cell phone contracts are for two years that puts them in a tough position.  Should they pay full retail price for the new device?  This becomes a big issue for the BlackBerry Storm 2, which is a pretty big upgrade over the original.  According to a BlackBerry OS Thread, Verizon will allow original Storm users to upgrade early.  They still have to extend their contracts which can be too much for some, but they can then also get it for the subsidized price.  There will be more information once the VZW BOGO expires on November 7th.  Now reading the forum today it states; it's confirmed VZW will start doing early updates for Storm 1 customers to the Strom 2.  No date given as of yet.  It will cost $279.00 for 2 year extension with $100.00 mail in rebate.  It will be after the current BOGO promotion.  If this does actually happen all of you that told me I was stupid, a fool and whatever else when I felt VZW should take care of the original Strom customers can be nicer to me now.  Thank you....

Well it's not a FREE upgrade by any means! So are they paying twice? Personally I see no difference in the Storm 1  VS The Storm 2, except the WiFi, if you need that. My touch screen works fine, I am only unhappy with trying to clear logs right now and I have managed to do it by being very careful and I also found a memory clearing list under Options, Security Options. Advanced Security options,, Memory cleaning, scroll down to Registered Cleaners, certificate Search BB Menu, clean now and it goes thru a whole list and cleans the menus of any and everything. I do not know if this was there before the 5.0 OS update as I never saw it. But I become more and more familiar with this phone everyday. :smileyvery-happy:

I never implied it should be free just a discount.  There will be some that take it and others that don't.  It's their decision.  My main point is VZW did something that was right, hopefully they still do it!:smileysad:  So many haters in here.......

as I posted Before.

if Verizon really wanted to make it right to the Storm 1 users, they would let you use your NE2 discount on an early upgrade, seeing we have been using a crippled device for almost a year. Just the standard 2 year contract price seems unfair to me seeing I feel cheated out of almost a year of my contract with substandard software, Not saying the Storm 1 Hardware runs great with the new 5.0, Just seems they should make things right for those of us stuck with a Device that didn't preform the way it should have for half our contract. I have been with Verizon from way back (Cellulor one, back in the day) have 5 lines on my contract, I think to keep loyal customers you have to make things right when you can't deliver on your products.

When you say "extend" the contract do you mean add on two years from your current upgrade date or start a new two years from the day you upgrade to the Storm2 ?

A new 2 years from the day you upgrade and after the 15th it will cost you $350 to cancel before the 2 years is up.

Thanks for the clarification.  I don't know if I will upgrade or not.  My S1 runs very well since tweaking and upgrading the 5.0 software. But I did get to test the S2 for a few days.  The typing is much better and the wifi is a plus.  I'm only three months or so into my contract so the extra time added would not make that much difference, and being the primary line on my plan I get the yearly upgrade anyway.

Decisions Decisions.....................
