Voicemail Notification Wont Reset

I have had a voicemail notification stuck in my hub for two months and I can't get it to go away.  It says that I've got 3 voicemails, but these don't actually exist.  I've found some threads about leaving yourself a VM, staying on the line, etc., but no luck when I try these. I could tolerate this nuisance, but it precludes actual voicemails from registering on the phone.  Plus it is irritating as hell, given the amount of money I pay Verizon monthly!  Thanks in advance for any help.

I know how frustrating this might be and I want to make sure your Voicemail is working as it should. What make/model phone you have? Are you able to receive new Voicemail messages besides the three messages your phone says to have two months ago? Please share more details to work towards a solution.
