Volume Controls - BB Tour - Please help

I just purchased the Tour yesterday, my first Blackberry. I cannot figure out how to work the volume on the phone. I'm really hoping that I'm missing something. The typical volume buttons on the side of the phone do not do anything. You can click the "Sounds" button/folder and choose a sound setting, but please tell me you can control the volume some way by the buttons on the side of the phone. Even though you click on this button/folder, you cant just control the volume up and down to choose the level you want. I go in and out of work all the time and need to be able to just turn my phone up and down as needed quickly without having to go in and click on some folder every time. Is there some kind of setting I need to turn on in order to use those buttons?

Do you mean call volume or the ringer volume?  The buttons on the side do not control the ringer volume, they only control the in-call volume. To change the ringer volume you need to change the profile entirely and there's several profiles to choose from that you can edit, or create your own profiles.

I'm talking about ringer volume. Call volume works, but there isn't a way to beable to change the ringer volume using those buttons? I find it very annoying to have to preset volume levels and then have to go in and change the level from either normal, medium, or loud.

I have the same issue, I am used to an escalating volume ringer. BB use to have it. The current Verizon software doesn't.:smileysad:

Pardon the hijack, but can you give an example of how one would set up a custom profile in the ringer volume? Not the mechanics, but what one could do different from the pre set ones?  I tried to make an escalating ringer that way and it didn't work.

I'm very disappointed in this feature, or rather, lack of feature. :smileysad:

Setting up a custom profile for ringers won't change much of anything I'm guessing. What can you do differently?

Here is one thing you can do, send an email to BB to ad this back in the next software update.

Well I'm definitely gonna do that. It's my biggest pet peeve about this phone up to this point. But then again, I'm still learning. There's so much to figure out with this phone as its my first BB

Yes I asked the Verizon rep if BB had it like my NOKIA did, and he assured me it did. Wrong...........:smileysad:

Hi all,

The Tour, which I own, does not have the option for escalating ringer on the phone.  This feature in the 4.7 Blackberry OS was done away with.  I hear rumor that 5.0 OS will give the user a little more ringer control, so maybe that will be an option again.  If anyone wants to know how to set up a custom ringer for themselves let me know and I will post a how to...

Doc

Ps  The wife and I have owned the Tour for about 2 weeks now and have not had any trouble what so ever.  It is a great phone and I highly recommend it to any one looking to buy it.

Hi, all,

I will give an creating a custom profile for a worker in a busy factory floor.  It is loud and he needs a ringer that is loud but also with a vibration alert.

1.  Click the Menu key.

2.  Go to Profiles and click

3.  On the Select a Sound Profile, scroll down to Custom Profiles and click

4.  Click Add Custom Profile

5.  Give it a name (whatever you want..I'll Use Factory Floor)

6.  Scroll down to Phone and click

7.  On Volume, Change the default Normal Setting to 10 (the loudest)

8.  Go to Vibration and click Custom

9.  Now we are going to make it vibrate with the ringer.  Change Length to Long.

10. change Count to 3 (you can play with this if you want...that's why this is custom)

11. Go to In/Out of Holster and change to In and Out: (This will make it do what you want if the Blackberry is either in your hand or in your holster.

12. Press the Menu key.

13. Select Save

14. Select Save again.

Now from your Select a Sound Profile from Step 3, you will see Factory Floor as an option.  Click that one and it will become the active profile.  To go back to your normal profile, select Normal.

What about a reminder notification. For example, the phone rings because you have a call or receive a message. Is there somewhere to make sure it beeps occasionally to remind you of the missed call/message?? I may have missed it somewheres, but I don't see where the setting is.

Yeah, I forgot about that, but sometimes if it's out of sight, out of mind. I like that little beep or something to remind me. So basically what youre saying is there isn't a reminder option? lol I don't seem to be having very good luck on the little features I hold so dear. :smileysad:  How can a $500-600 phone lack the little things that make the world go round a little easier?

No I am not saying there is not a tone reminder, I am pretty sure there is one . I had it on for emails, but at night by the bed it would make a noise and wake my wife who has to get up at 3AM. I will look and get back to you on that.

go to sound profile, and see if there is away to set a ring for a reminder there.
