I used to be an ATT customer for a long time. When my son went off to college we all switched over to Verizon because of the better coverage. Recently I have come to realize that the work I do would benefit from my having email and internet access on my phone. When I called customer service I was happy to hear that it would only cost me $10 more a month for 75mb per month. I don't need much so that was great. Nobody told me that with my Pantech I can't see html emails or websites. So I go out and buy a used Blackberry which can get html messages. However that is going to cost me $30 more a month. Nobody I speak to can explain why this is so or why I can't get limited usage on my Blackberry. I'm not loving Verizon so much anymore and I am NOT going to be pushed into paying over $300 more per year for something I don't need.

We understand and apologize for your frustrations regarding these very different data plans. The reason the plan for the BlackBerry is a bit higher is because the device is designed for E-mail and Internet access, which uses much more data than you were able to use on the Pantech device, which is why the $30.00 gets you unlimited data each month, so you never have to worry about overage charges.
Thanks,

BlackBerrys are smartphones, while the Jest is a feature phone. BlackBerrys push emails to your phone as they're sent, allow users to instant-message through BB Messenger, which is covered by the data plan, and there are apps that let you do so much more.
I would wait and see what this summer brings as far as possible tiered data plans. A smaller package might be ideal for you, especially since BlackBerry devices are designed to use less data than other smartphones.
