Why is Verizon still on my Blackberry?

I had Verizon on my Blackberry, but recently canceled service. I was "playing" with the phone and dialed a number from the call log from about two years ago when I was on Sprint. I got a message from Verizon about a problem.

How am I able to access the Verizon network since I no longer have Verizon service on the Blackberry?  I transferred my Blackberry data to a new phone.
