You can do it a few different ways. You can drag and drop songs to a media card in your computer, then insert the card in your BlackBerry. Or you can do it through Desktop Manager -- install it on your computer, then go into Media Manager. You will essentially find the songs by browsing on the top half of the window, then "copy them down"to your device in the bottom window, puttting them in the songs folder. Or, the easiest way and the one I use is simply opening Windows Media Manager, connecting my BlackBerry via USB cable, then syncing songs right to the device. You may have to have Desktop Manager installed in order for your PC to recognize the device, but I'm not sure.
You are correct about Desktop Manager being installed on computer. The computer will not recognize Storm unless Desktop Manager is installed.
I agree with SaNDman, in order for Desktop Manager to recognize your phone, the proper software will have to be installed.
