I, too, am considering the BOLD as my next phone. You can read about it here: http://www.phonearena.com/phones/RIM-BlackBerry-Bold-9650_id4283 and http://www.phonescoop.com/phones/phone.php?p=2497
Realize that everyone has different needs and expectations, so those need to be taken into account when reading reviews. Your needs and expectations also need to be considered.
Having said that, I just have to ask...Why on earth does a 12 year old need (or even want) a Blackberry?!? You are not due for an upgrade, your mother is concerned ("complaining" is the word you used) that you will break it (is this why you are in the market for a new phone before you are eligible to upgrade?) and she is the one footing the bill, even though you said YOU want to buy it, I doubt you have the financial resources to buy it ... it's a lot of money for something a 12 year old (IMHO) has no business using - and I mean that quite literally. A Blackberry is primarily a business tool, built for email and networking - NOT for teenagers and texting and Facebooking....you can do that with a host of other phones that don't cost nearly as much and don't need a data plan, and would be much more suitable for a 12 year old. Again, that's my opinion - and I really don't know your situation.
I just have a hard time reconciling a 12 year old and a Blackberry, or even a cell phone .... my kids didn't even get cell phones till they were driving....

Bold = business email oriented with global capabilities, only device that possibly may get 6.0 of RIM's software. Optical better than trackball. Blackberries are old and tired but if your company has a BES thats what you should get.

Hahaha!
The original post seems "off" to me.

Ironically, I think kneekhaliss' point is proven. In an unlikely but inadvertent way, no?

i can tell you about mine. i've had three. in three months. not because i like them so much but because the ones i've received don't work properly (dropped calls, failed calls, broken speakers, etc.) i would suggest you choose something else.
