Activation Issue

I recently sold my Galaxy s7 Edge to my boss as his wife needed to upgrade her phone.  By this time, i had purchased a Note 8.  She has gone to the local retailer here and been told a list of various things pertaining to why this phone could not be activated.  I was told to contact the 800 number, which i did, and was told there were no issues with it.  I also took the phone personally to this local retailer and, after they checked the IMEI on the phone, i was told that there would be no issues in her activating it.


I was contacted by my boss today and told that his wife, again, tried to have the phone activated.  This time, she was told that it could not be activated as there was an unpaid bill associated with it.  This was passed on to her, from my understanding, by someone in customer service who had been contacted by the employee at the retailer.

I would like to get some assistance in getting this matter resolved as there are different things being stated to me, as the previous phone owner, and my boss's wife.  Things that are completely opposite.  As a side not, the phone was purchased online, had never been previously activated to my knowledge, and worked perfectly fine for me.

If the device was blacklisted due to an issue with the previous owner's account Swappa suggests the steps listed here-
