Bring your own USB modem (can I go month-to-month)?

A coworker has an extra USB modem he's willing to part with very cheaply.  If I bring my own USB modem to Verizon and put it on a data plan, do I incur a contract, or can that allow me to go month-to-month from the beginning?  I hate contracts!

Last I knew, if you activate your own equipment then you do not have to sign a contract. You can just pay month to month for service.

As long as it's not lost or stolen you should have no problems activating the USB modem and as long as it's registered to be used on the Verizon Wireless network you should be fine as well.

Just be sure to state very clearly that you do not want a contract.

Good luck to you sir.
