How do I force my 4G netbook to use 3g internet?

I have a laptop that is supposed to be 4G but it only connects to the internet for a few minutes at a time. I just upgraded it from a 3G netbook and I am extremely disappointed with this. I was told that if 4g was unavailable then it should start using 3g instead but I haven't seen that happen; I've only ever seen it attempt to use 4 g, fail, then just give up entirely on forming an internet connection. Complete lack of internet connection and the only way to make it work for a few more minutes is to restart the netbook. How do I force the netbook to just use the 3g connection instead of the 4g one. I'd rather have slow internet that works than internet that doesn't work at all. Complete waste of money right now.

open vzacess manager
type in diagvzw, password is 000000
go to settings or something on the right hand side and set it from global to cdma/rtt only
apply changes, and you're set. Not sure if it works on all 4g devices though, worth a shot
if that doesnt work you can go into options and look for connection type and see if you have a preference and change it from global
