How do I start Verizon svcs using GOBI 2000/Sierra Wireless card on Ubuntu 9.1 on Toshiba netbook?

So my new Toshiba came with Win 7 os and an embedded Sierra Wireless card, the GOBI 2000.  In Win 7, the card automatically signs on to Verizon with no windows or questions.  When I run Ubuntu, I can see the card, but it asks for a name and password.  I can't find that info anywhere.  Anybody know how to do this?

You may need to have your card reset if you do not recall setting up the information. You can contact technical support by dialing 1-800-Verizon or send an email by going to "contact us" at the top of the website.

Nobody "set up the phone":  the salesmen at Best Buy simply scanned barcodes from the outside of the unopened box in to my Vz contract.  When I got home and fired the machine up the first time, it asked me which provider I wanted.  When I chose Vz, the machine simply hooked me up with no dialog and I had Vz svcs from then on.  Pretty impressive!  I'm guessing when the Vz computers saw my ESID come online, they simply allowed hookup?

Wow it is impressive, usually you have to run some sort of activation process on the card itself. Your user name is I believe "##########@vzw3g.com" substitute the ## for your data card's phone number. The number you want it to dial is #777 and the password is VZW You CAN NOT track useage using software if you manual dial, track it using verizonwireless.com I know this because I had to set up a manual connection for the internet too.

Use the "Toshiba WWAN Manager" utility that comes with the Toshiba NB305. Open up "Toshiba WWAN Manager" - "Options" - "3G Utilities" - "Usage Dialog" to view your Verizon 3G Broadband account usage tied to your Verizon number associated with your Gobi card. You may have to toggle your 3G connection off/on for it to display but it will work.

I had no luck using Verizons VZW Access program either. The problem is with Verizons VZW Access program not wanting to communicate with the embedded card. It however does recognize the Gobi Emedded card as a USB Gobi 2000 modem. I believe that is the problem.
