MiFi 4510L continually disconnects with "[RUIAUTO]" error
Gunn317
Newbie

We've had continual problems with our MiFi 4510L disconnecting right in the middle of using it. Sometimes it will go an hour (at most) before it resets, but mostly it will reset every few minutes. It's driving us mad! It can take several attempts to load a single webpage. YouTube videos are nearly out of the question. Online shopping is scary because it can reset right after you push the "submit credit card info" button.

In looking at the MiFi router webpage, Advanced->Diagnostics page, if I look at the "System Log", the results are pasted below. This is the result of a 48 minute period, only!  If you look through, there are several sections that look like this, when a disconnect happens:

NWPM_EVENT_CALL_CONNECTED

11/18/12 10:24:54am> LTE Connected

11/18/12 10:24:42am> NWPM_EVENT_CALL_END

11/18/12 10:24:42am> LTE Disconnected

11/18/12 10:24:42am> [RUIAUTO] Invalid packet state

11/18/12 10:23:31am> NWPM_EVENT_CALL_CONNECTED

11/18/12 10:23:31am> LTE Connected

This [RUIAUTO] Invalid packet state" is the issue. What could be causing this, and how can I fix it? I only have one cell tower in my area, and I'm using all Windows 7 machines, all connecting wirelessly to the MiFi in my home. We use it as our primary broadband connection as we have no other options. Well, my next option if this cannot be resolved is to try Exede satellite internet. But we had WildBlue before this MiFi and weren't happy with it. Our MiFi contract is up though, so we are free to search out alternatives without penalty.

If anyone can shed some light on this, I would much appreciate it!

The only light I can shed is that my mifi has the exact same problem. I'm using Windows 7 as well, and somedays it works perfect and like today, got up and it will connect, but just as soon as I open IE, it says "no internet access" but its still connected?

Hi Gunn317,

I know how important it is to stay connected to the internet! I want you to have continuos connections with your MiFi device always! Please do a factory reset http://bit.ly/VgYTGx to resolve any potential system conflicts or corrupted files. Let us know how it works after reset.

We would occasionally get this error with a 4620L with the most recent firmware, but recently I've been able to associate the problem with a specific device.  My son got a Sony PSVITA for Christmas. Here's a log where the Vita attaches - we get constant RUIAUTO logging until he disconnects from the network.  This seems to argue for using an intermediate router between the mifi/jetpack and the user devices.

Scott,

When you compare your log aginst the OP's log its easy to see that something is using IPv6 on your MiFi.  The IPv6 conversations between the MiFi and VZW are failing and disconnecting your MiFi from the network.

I'd check to see if you can disable the IPv6 features on your son's PSVita.  You will most likely have to check with Sony and thier support forums for those steps if it is possible. Not sure if it is possible to disable IPv6 on the MiFi itself or not.  I'd bet once you stop the IPv6 assignments your connection will return to normal.
