When you hook the MiFI to a desktop to use as a modem, does it still act as a hot spot on other devices?
Alos does you old Modem and the MiFi have the same number, so you could use the old unit as a backup ?

You can see the phone numbers assisgned to your devices at "My Verizon" on this site, or look at your bill.

I'm pretty sure when you got the MIFI, when it was activated that automatically deactivated your old modem. I could be wrong though.
No, when your MIFI is connected using the USB cable, it is no longer a "hot spot"... However, there is a way to configure it to do this - you'll have to search the forums for the instructions.
