Modem not working with router

I have alter VPN modem and a kyocera router,can't get them to work together . The router says they are compatible modem is a USB huawei-ec228 the router is a  KYOCERA  both are brand new ,had them for a lil while because I am under contract with direct tv,so want in no hurry to get it working more than one laptop,NOW CANT GET IT TO WORK WITH ROUTER AND THE WIRELESS LAPTOPS ,CAN ANYONE HELP ME OUT, THANKS ALOT  keith bryant
