I've barely used any of my allotted GBs as my broadband unit turns off whenever it thinks I'm not using it even if I am using it.  How do I get it to stay on all day.  I'd like to use a magicjack, but it wouldn't work if the broadband unit keeps turning off.

The Mobile broadband connection is definitly designed to go dormant to free up space on the network for other users, so I can understand your frustration. All you need is a simple keep alive program that periodically pings a set IP address to keep the connection alive.
