Network Extender without an active VZW Account?

Hello -

Hypothetically, if I have a active Network Extender and cancel Verizon Wireless service and instead use a MVNO that uses the VZW network, will the Extender still work?  Put another way, does it need to be associated with an active account to work, or does it simply need to be connected to my broadband.
