Pantech UMW190 intermittantly loses proxy & dns settings?

We have been using these modems for a number of years, and we encounter a problem where we setup a user to talk to the company network using proxy & DNS settings that are entered in the browser for that connection. If a user doesn't use it for some time, then they go on vacation or in the field, they find they can no longer connect. Time after time it's the proxy & dns settings that have been erased. We know if the modem is connected to another USB port, that the settings will disappear. We ask the enduser if they moved the modem to another port and they will say that they kept it on the same port that it was installed on. Another instance of this phenomenon occurs when a user launches VZAccess and the laptop doesn't see the modem right away, VZAccess will prompt the user if they want to Redetect. If the user clicks the Redetect button, they lose the same settings. Recently, we have a user that has been constantly losing the above settings. We replaced the modem first, same result. Then we replaced the laptop, and to our astonishment, the user continues to have the same problem. We have asked users if they see a prompt to redetect the device, do not click the button. Remove the Pantech Modem then reinstall. This has helped to alleviate some of the problem but we still see the above settings getting dropped. We are currently using WinXP SP3 with the latest VZAccess Manager software for the device. Has anyone encountered this or other similar issue?

Is there anyway to hardcode the addresses to a config file? and have VZAcess get the settings from that instead of the browser?

Any help is appreciated.
