Are you saying that you used 3 megabytes in one week? If so, that is remarkably low for internet usage on mobile broadband, much less for Facebook. Even if it was 3GB for a single week, there are higher data allowances available now.

I think the problem is ultimately that there isn't much information provided in the original post to go on. These community boards are actually pretty decent for help with thinking about alternative plan options and thinking outside of the box we have ourselves in. If you give us an idea about what plans you have and what your usage looks like, we might be able to help you find a good or better option.

On just Facebook? I do that about every 5 days, but I am watching videos and listening to hometown radio stations. Facebook alone won't generate that kind of usage

Verizon got way too greedy with data.. more so offering only data'packs'.. My wife has an older plan that I'm paying $30/ month for unlimited data usage.. Verizon must be hating me big time for all of the streaming music/video we use.. Shame on Verizon for milking us with packs instead of offering unlimited usage like other carriers..

I agree my vz hot spot is is probably going in the drawer with the rest of my junk, not paying $200 a month to surf web and Facebook

Hello side5464,

Whoa, no need to toss your Mifi in a drawer! I'm glad you love your Mifi device so let's make sure you are comfortable your service plan, too. Facebook does contribute to data usage; however, 3 GB is a high amount to incur in one week. I have included some quick tips that will prove helpful.

I highly recommend making sure your Mifi is not connected when not in use. Often our PCs or tablets will perform updates and access background data. I wanted to mention this because these updates can cause data usage to jump up, unexpectedly.

The good news is that we do have different layers of data plans for our customers to choose from. Please take a moment to review the details of our Share Everything plans, here http://bit.ly/xdDajD .

I have also included a link to our Data Calculator http://bit.ly/A2Oo3K; where you can estimate your monthly usage to help assess whether a plan change is necessary.

Please let us know if you have further questions or concerns. Your satisfaction is key to our company success.

Thank you,

Hi there Side5464!

That's definitely quite a bit of usage! Some very good suggestions were brought up, so I just want to make sure you're safe and secure!

Do you have a password protection on your Mifi? It comes password protected and would have to be switched to open access. You can check your security by putting this IP Address in your web browser address bar: 192.168.1.1

The password default is "admin" to get in. I would visit this to update your passwords just in case anyone around you may know them!

Here's more information:

That's for the 4510L Mifi, but they're all pretty similar. Which model do you have?

Thanks,

Sorry you are doing more than Facebook if you are using 10 GB in one week. You clearly are watching some video OR someone else is connecting to your mi-fi connection. Do you have it secure? Also Verizon does have higher data plans if you are using that much that would be cheaper than paying the overage fees. You can get a 10 GB plan that is $40 more than 2 GB. In fact with Share Everything you get up to 20 GB a month. Going from 2 GB to 20 GB would be $90 a month more. Expensive but cheaper than paying the overages. And if you are over your limit TURN IT OFF and you won't incur any more charges.

Well, either he's doing a LOT more than just facebook, or he has many pc's connecting (legit or stealth) and he should monitor his usage to see if the logs as recorded by verizon match his expected usage levels.

That being said, Verizon's data caps are way too low for the prices they charge. $60 a month should be buying 20 Gig/month on a share plan, not 2 Gig. That, by way of comparison, is what Telefonika of Sweden charges, so I'm not just pulling numbers out of my butt here. And they don't charge access fees for each device you want to add to your service. They just give you additional SIMs to use.  These  metrics and others like them show that Americans are being SEVERELY gouged on cell phone data service, and this needs to be examined and ordered corrected by federal regulators.

Verizon wireless has been adding dates and data usage to your bill when you are not even on computer. Just yesterday I was on the computer at 8 am got off at 12 noon and when I got home last night at 1 am on the 17th. I checked my data usage and they had me on the computer at 2:39 pm, 5:59 pm, and 7:29 pm and using 189.50 MB My computer was shut down and closed. Now does this happen to anyone else???? Also they will put days and data from the month before and say it was not added for you might have used your device somewhere else or the data was late coming in, when it doesn`t leave the window. So when you get your bill check the data by going to the last page of your data and check the dates and time and see if they are from the month before that they added on. Also try keeping a record of when you connect and disconect and the next day check the data to see if the times match. If you call them DON~T call billing call TECHNICAL support they know more about everything.

I've had Verizon for several years. Be it different numbers and service plans. If you look around like I have. You will find another provider for a much better price. As soon as my phone is paid off. I will be switching companies. As the lack of competitive pricing, but also the very bad phone selection.

Ohh and on a side note they will allow you one "Data Pop Session" before it magically stops working and use it as a tool to get you to switch plans.
