Printer problems and more...

My hp Officejet Pro 8625 printer keeps dropping conectivity and freezes up.  I have to unlpug and restart to print. This just started happening - not an issue with previous wirelss router only happened after we switched to MiFi jet pack.  Also data usage in January and February was huge - what the heck is happening?  We use Verizon for internet and phone service - honestly considering paying the early termination fees and dropping it all. Can't print, can't afford internet - not the savings we were promised when we switched providers.

The jet pack goes dormant. You would have to restart it. Also when it is pinging to the network it's gonna use data. And lastly wireless Internet has never been a means to replace hold wired services. Perhaps after your contract is up switch back or pay to end your contract early.

Which Jetpack?

Are you using a static IP address on the printer?

Did you reinstall the printer software after you changed to a Jetpack?

Have you configured a fixed Wi-Fi channel (use 1, 6 or 11) in the Jetpack?

When this AIO printer works does it “Scan” to a computer?

Wi-Fi printers can be problematic especially if the network changes and it can take a bit more effort to make them cooperate.

Before you got a Jetpack, what internet was your router using?

bcremer, It's disheartening to learn that you've been unable to maintain connection wiht your printer. We surely know the importance of understanding your data usage as well. Which model Mifi do you have? Are you receiving any error messages when it drops connectivity and/or freezes up? How much data do you typically use per month? How much of an increase did you experience? Please share details so we can help. We surely don't want you to cancel your service with us as your business is truly appreciated.

I'm using the Jetpack 4GLTE, we actually have two of them as this is

for our business and personal internet service. I do not get any error

messages, printer just freezes. I have given up on the wireless

printing option and am currently using a USB cable with no problems so

far. As far as data usage - I think I fell for a salesman's pitch in the

store. We were "sold" on the idea that switching to Verizon would save us

money over our landlines and internet, however to use the internet and our

phones like we have been has taken a tremendous amount of data, much more

than we calculated (with the help of the salesperson) when we made the

decision to switch. We now have a 40GB plan (Business) with 4 phone lines

and two Jetpacks for the cost of $300+ per month. Just not sure its going

to be worth it.

FYI this is not a Jetpack model number.  Jetpack is a generic term used by Verizon to describe their mobile hotspot product line.  For example all MiFis are Jetpacks but not all Jetpacks are MiFis.  Furthermore each MiFi has a specific model number.   The model number would be something like a 4510L, 5510L, 6620L, etc and is tied to the manufacturer of your specific Jetpack (Novatel, Ellipsis, etc)

The current Jetpack models can be found here:

This is a classic case of buyer beware.  Data cannot be accurately estimated or accounted for without the assistance of a monitor.  Anything without evidence of actual usage is an estimation at best.  Real world results often show that mobile broadband devices are not ideal for permanent or primary internet access, especially for a business.  They are best for travelers who need internet in a pinch when normal connections are not available.

What you need instead is something with a high or unlimited data plan which normally is only available through land line Internet Service Providers.
