Removing AIM and the Ebay icon from my netbook

My new netbook came with AIM ready to install and an Ebay icon loaded to my desktop. Since the Ebay icon isn't on the list of programs to uninstall, if I just move that to the recyle bin will that remove it from the system? Also, I don't use AIM or AOL. Can I uninstall without causing damage to my other programs?  Thanks.

The EBAY icon on your desktop is merely a shortcut to a web address or URL.  Hitting SHIFT-DELETE will delete the icon perm (with out sending it to the recycle bin).

The AOL icon on your desktop is merely another shortcut to a PROGRAM on your hard drive/programs list.  You can delete the icon on your desktop as well, but it wont delete the program.

You would have to go into "ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS" in the CONTROL PANEL, to get rid of the entire AOL program.

Removing AOL should not have any effect on your computer.  Every "program" should have an "uninstall" procedures which removes files and registry entries for that particular program.
