Just recently purchased a USB modem for my netbook and I am quite pleased with it. Just like having a security key for my wireless at home, is there a security concern having a USB modem? Can someone else close to me get to my wireless if it is on?

Your USB modem does not broadcast WiFi. Your laptop does not broadcast WiFi. So therefore no one can pick up your WiFi signal or otherwise.
