Software does not recognize Mi-fi connection

I have several software packages that cannot connect through the MI-fi 2000 connection to the internet, and it would appear to maybe be some kind of DNS problem, but that just a SWAG.

One is my security package (PAnda IS - do not buy, no support) which cannot update itself over the MI-FI; I have to dial-up everyday or so that it can, but I have no clue as to the problem and cannot find anyway to debug.

The second is 'NETBEANS IDE', which I use to participate in some open source software projects.  It cannot connect through MI-FI and seems to indicate it thinks there is a proxy server that needs to be passed through.  Again, I have to dial-up over a land line whenever I wich to update my projects.

The 'Wincvs' package has similar problems.

My wife and I share the MI-FI device over Linksys WUSB100 wireless adaptors on each of our machines.  The inability for some software to not recognize the connection really bugs me. Verizon help desk has been no help
