I THINK THAT THEY ARE MEASURING THE DATA THAT FLOWS THRU THE DEVICE.......IF YOU HAVE A NETWORKED PRINTER AND OTHER DEVICES ON THE WIFI HOTSPOT IT TALLYS ALL OF IT... EVEN IF IT IS NOT ROUTED THRU THE TOWER AND THEIR NETWORK....

THEY MEASURE ALL OF THE DATA THAT FLOWS THRU THE HOTSPOT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i.e. Printing, LAN and wirelessly connected devices

THEY ARE ABUSING ALL OF US!

They want me triple my data plan to $600 a month plus access charges for the devices....Are they silly?

Do you have proof? How did you allegedly figure that out? Why don't you pony up and buy a router for all that stuff you seem to be doing?

Any data that goes through the Verizon device is measured as it is being used on Verizon's network.

If it is my personal LAN. How are you attempting to sell me on your response......   MY Device....  Their Network....  It is not going out to their towers and then back to my LOCAL AREA NETWORK!!

Using the phone as a hotspot...this means you are using Verizon's network as the internet and your phone as a router.  The hotspot is on their network.  Your device is using their hotspot.  I see where you try to say that the printer and hotspot make a direct connection with data being sent only to the printer, where data from the internet may not be needed, but any data flowing from the hotspot, to or from is counted.

Bridge your hotspot to a real router and connect your network devices to that or stop transferring your data between your devices through your hotspot. Also, your caps lock appears to be broken.

This statement is not entirely correct.  To clarify, anything that goes through the VZW network is held against your data plan.  Any local traffic such as one PC to another over the LAN is not held against you.

What confuses people is when a local device such as a printer happens to check out on the internet for updates.  That traffic will certainly count against you, but the normal stuff between a PC and a printer while remaining on a LAN will not.

Again, to clarifty, any data that goes across the VZW network is counted.  Local network activity that does not touch the VZW network is not.  You can easily verify this by sending a file from one PC to another and then checking on the VZW usage reports when they update.

That is exactly what I did! I power cycle my Jetpack both before and after the test. Power cycle always updates data usage to the most current value for me. I see an amount that is not necessarily the 1 to 1 ratio transferred during the test, added to my data usage. Transfer speed drops to less than 1.5 MB/s, possibly because the data appears to be going over the internet and if it is that explains why it affects data usage.

If that is true and LAN usage is getting counted against you then we need to get the pitchforks and torches.  Well maybe that's jumping to conclusions a little but LAN traffic is not supposed to count against us. In the past when this has happened it was my understanding that credits and adjustments were made to correct the problem and defective hardware was replaced.

Lets see if there is a better explanation for what is going on.  If you are seeing this problem then please confirm specifically which VZW device you are using and the firmware version its using.  Lets document and compare results.  Detail the test that you are performing in a way that we can replicate and confirm your findings.  For example lets pick a standard document and test transferring from PC to PC or sending to a printer.
