I need advice on what hardware is required to setup a hotspot on a houseboat.
I get good phone signal with my iphone on the boat.
I have 12Volt power supply only from solar panels.
My objective is to have internet connection periodically available on the boat that can interact with an Arduino micro-controller monitoring certain conditions on the boat. I wish to be able to get notifications and operate certain devices from my phone when I am very far away from the boat.
Can a hotspot be set up that only turns on and consumes data for just a few minutes per day or when an emergency arises and a notice must be sent out? (like slowly taking on water)
The Arduino micro-controller has WIFI connectivity but I'm unsure of how to set up a hotspot device that the Arduino can interface with.

A Jetpack hotspot isn't designed for 24/7 operation that is being suggested by the OP for monitoring of their equipment at the location.
