Will phone hotspot replace UTC device for computer wireless connection?

have HTC Thunderbolts and a UTC device hooked to a cradlepoint router, 1400 min plan unlimited msg, txt, data.  considering changing plan to share everything. Plan says mobile hotspot is included for capable phones. Will fone hotspots work in place of UTC device for data connection for our computers?
