myfi too slow

I have a Samsung myfi with both 3g and 4g. I'm in a 4g area but the signal is very slow (like dial up slow) and unreliable. It keeps logging off. My usage is in the .5 range when I have 4 gigs available so it's not the usage. I don't know how far the tower is but I have no problem talking on the phone with my iPhone. Any ideas?

Also, can anyone tell me if I can use my iPhone's hot spot capability and still talk on the phone? Thanks

Katerinadp,

Lets get your MiFi up to speed! What zip code are you in? Also, I would like to know the specific model of MiFi you have. Please look at the sticker on the battery cover of your device and let us know that info. Although you will not be able to use your iPhone's hotspot and be on a call at the same time, I want to compare your MiFi speeds to your iPhone speeds. Please run a Speedtest ( www.speedtest.net ) on both devices and share the results.

Thanks for the quick response. Ok so the first two below are for my Myfi,

which is model SCH-LC11.

My zip code here is 38637 although it is not my permanent location. I use

the myfi when I travel. When I tried the speed test through the link you

gave me, it had a hard time connecting at first.

Now I'm going to test my iphone

I hope I did it right, but from what I observed the phone was a lot faster.

Thanks for your help.

Katherine

PS: Do you know if I'm charged extra for the hotspot on iphone 5? I'm

paying $50 per month for myfi and hardly ever use it...

FYI.  MiFi is a trademarked brand name for Novatel mobile hotspots.  If you own a Samsun mobile hotspot then it is not considered a MiFi.  However, all MiFis and mobile hotspots on the VZW network are considered to be a part of the Jetpack family.

If your Jetpack is suffering from a performance problem then you should attempt to reset it by powering down the device and removing the SIM card for 30-60 seconds.  Once you power up the device it will reconnect with your local towers and should be able to resume at normal 4G LTE speeds.  Performance problems like the one you posted here are normally only temporary and resolve themselves when given the opportunity.

If a SIM card reset is not successful then try a full reset by powering on the device and then pressing and holding the Restore Defaults button under the back cover.  You may need a toothpick or paperclip to press this button.  Test the speed on a clean reset and if it performs normally from speedtest.net then apply any customizations after.
