why does verizon charge for their network extender when others like T-Mobile give theirs for free?

why does this have to be paid for when others give it away for free, after all we are paying enough for service

I've seen instances where it was free. it just depends on the situation and how adamant you are about it

well i am on fixed income and i have to go out in the cold outside my home to receive or make a call, i figured that i would qualify if anyone would.

Many service providers offer a Network Extender for free when the user is located within a full service area but is not receiving the proper signal strength to connect and operate correctly.  A typical scenario is an apartment renter  who lives in the basement of a building.  Although they might be right in the middle of a VZW service area the signals wont naturally penetrate into the ground and surrounding environment well enough to use the service the user is paying for.  A common solution is then to provide a Network Extender for free under the current contract provided that the user has access to "high speed" internet that is necessary to support it.

The only way you will know is if you call VZW and explain your scenario to them.
