I've recently set up an LTE Network Extender in my home. The calling functionality seems to be improved. The issue that I'm having is with my WiFi/Mobile Data usage. Half way through the month I'm already receiving notifications from Verizon that I'm running out of data (I have 17G). We rarely even approach these limits as we work from home and are connected to the WiFi all day.
Verizon credited my account 1G of data to hold us over but that was already gone in a day. Our phones show connected to WiFi but also have the mobile internet connection active. Only our two cell phones are on the Verizon network. All other devices do not have Verizon plans and are connected to WiFi.
After speaking to a Verizon agent, I was told that cell phones are programmed to connect to the STRONGEST connection for Internet usage and since the Extender is the strongest signal, the phone will use Verizon for mobile data even if the phone is also connected to WiFi. I'm not sure I believe that. A second agent would not confirm that.
In addition, I was advised to turn off my mobile connection when I enter the home (so that WiFi is used) and to turn the mobile connection back on when I leave the house (so I can have an internet connection while traveling). That advice seems absurd. I shouldn't have to do that.
I show both cell phones are connected to the router and I also show that both phones are connected to the Extender.
I believe that somehow the Extender is interfering and forcing Verizon data usage even though I am connected to my home WiFi. Is that possible? Any suggestions??? Thanks!!
