If you are planning to start a service with Verizon and you are traveling to the border very often, PLEASE DONT DO IT. Verizon has the worst service ever. I have to travel to Mexicali and Tijuana very often, but once I cross the border, my cell is dead. Verizon is having issues with the network in Mexico, meanwhile, we don’t have service. I have confirmed this with several friends and they are having similar issues. So, my question is, anybody else is having this problem with Verizon?

You're not really going to find people who sign up with a US carrier for Mexican coverage. You realize Verizon doesn't operate towers in Mexico, right? If your service is bad, that falls on the Mexican carrier you're roaming with. There was also the issue along the boarder with a Mexican carrier using the same frequencies which gave Americans poor signal as a result.

Hello, fdogv. This is not the way we want you to feel, and we are here to help. We want to ensure you have reliable service no matter where you are. To clarify, does this only happen when you are near the border? CourtneyM_VZW

stop lying to this lady, verizon can do so much better than this. Verizon only works while in the US opposed to other cellphone companies, fix the problem and invest in your customers. reason why we don't have service while abroad is cause Verizon has become cheap and don't want to negotiate a good and reliable contract with companies from abroad

What is the solution to this problem? I have roaming enabled, but as long as there is 1x from a Verizon tower across the border, roaming does not engage. So no data in the border area.

I’m here in Tijuana and called ahead of time to make sure I’d have service and nope!! Not a bar of signal even. Is there something I can do to get service??

Verizon is the worst service ever. Every time I have to go to Tijuana, I know for sure, I will not have service. I was told, there is a company in Mexico that is using the same towers or something like that. But the service in Mexico terrible!

Hello, Kanani101. You can get a local Prepaid carrier if your Verizon phone is carrier unlocked. Another option you can try is using Wi-Fi calling. *Cassie

Yes, same issue. As long as my phone can get 1x from across the border, Verizon will not allow roaming. So, basically no data services within the first mile or so of the border. Big problem.

Yes, Verizon service is horrible in TJ and non-existent in Mexicali! Its very frustrating because my in-laws have Tmobil they are always connected. I’ve had 6 lines with Verizon for 15yrs but we might be making a switch…we travel south of the border very often and with no cell phone service in these modern times is bad!

Hello Harley! We're sorry to read that you're having trouble with the service when traveling to Mexico. We know it's important to stay connected abroad, and we're always happy to help. You should be able to connect. Sometimes you need to change the connection manually if the device has never connected to the network in Mexico. Please reply to our private note to better assist you. ~Aaron

Yep. I can confirm that Verizon does not have service in the Tijuana area. Zero or one bars. Has anyone tried AT&T.
