I called Verizon today, finally, after dealing with my issues since the 2.2 upgrade last week. (My issues are, slow internet, apps are force closing, facebook doesn't work, youtube won't play for long) He told me I need to do a factory reset, which is what I was afraid of. Is there anything I can do to save the apps that I have? Or am I seriously going to lose the history I have with all of the apps I have accumulated over the past several months?
I am so bummed about this. Also, he did tell me all of my contact information is housed in my gmail account. Is there anything I need to do, or when I sign into gmail will they sync up after the factory reset?

I am sorry that your phone is having problems, electronics huh. Well all the purchased apps you downloaded are save to your gmail also. Go into the Android market after the reset and hit the menu button then select downloads. Within there will be all the purchased apps and then just redownload them all. A hint for you though, before you hard reset your device go to contacts, menu, accounts, select your gmail, select sync now or hit the menu button and select sync now. This is going to insure your gmail is synced with the most current information. Once you wipe your device and put your gmail on your phone the contacts should just flow in. If not just repeat the previous step.
On the upside the Android devices are the easiest devices to bounce back from after a hard reset.
I hope this was helpful

I lost all my apps on my first Droid which froze on the Motorola logo after trying to do the 2.2 update.
If you are going to purchase one app from the Market, buy MyBackupPro. I bought this and installed it in Droid #2, which wound up being replaced again a couple of days later with Droid #3. It saves all your apps and settings on the SD card and restores your phone to what it was in 5 minutes.
Don't rely on the Market to show all your apps. When I got Droid #2 all I saw in my Market place was 6 apps that I paid for. All the free ones were gone.
If you have a lot of apps and settings and also text messages you want to save, I highly recommend MyBackupPro. It's the best $5 you'll ever spend!

If you really knew C+++ you would know that it isn't Android OS causing problems... it is a particular build that Verizon has messed with.
I would guess 80% is user error (from what I see). The other % is mainly hardware issues since these Moto phones seem to be crap.

@cobjones....I understand that there is probably a lot of user error but seriously Motorola really needs to backup the crap they are sending out to their customers. I am on my 3rd phone now and have to turn this one in because the touchscreen has stopped working. Mind you this is all in 2 months. Verizon customer service surely isn't being helpful and Motorola is even worse.
I really am sorry that I got this phone, I wish I wouldn't have re-upped my contract to get this phone...I wish I would have just stayed with my LG DARE. Loved that phone!

With the new update, the functions on the camera are no longer working. The flash, autofocus and other functions do not even highlight after clicking on them. Is anyone else having this issue?

Agreed, they need to do a h*ll of alot more testing before putting out this crap software. My Droid is now dead after about 2 hours thanks to the new update. I know have 3 verizon app that I did not want, did not come with my phone but came in the update and not only do they constantly start up, there is no way to uninstall them. I FULLY believe that verizon feels squeezed out of the money from smart phones taking over. With their feature phones vcast this and that was the rage. Now we get it free on Droids, but they make us now have their software. I wouldn't care if it came with the update, but I should have EVERY RIGHT to REMOVE the offending software!!!!!! Ruined my appreciation for Droid phones and Verizon in general. This phone was sold to me as a stand alone phone away from verizon software. It was sold to me under the guise of being able to have what software I, I, repeat I wanted, not what VERIZON wanted me to have. Now look, not even a year later they're shoving CRAP software down out throats. City ID doesn't work for crap, why the H*ll am I not allowed to uninstall it???? Thank god my buyout is super cheap!!!

I am so glad I am not the only one here. Had my phone for a year... it did an automatic update for the first time 2 weeks ago. Maps went first when I needed it the most... then I lost the net completely... my phone reboots about 1,000 times a day. Pandora always shuts down. I cant access the app store... (found that out today)... when I text i will type about 2 words and it will freeze... (wait or foreclose). I seriously wanna slam it against a wall and go back to my old phone, but who can really live without a smart phone these days? {word filter avoidance} Just work already! Such garbage!

My phone since the update wont even let me talk to people properly, I have to put it on speaker phone just for the other person to hear me. Im upset with this update because now I cant excatly have a private conversation with anyone because they cant hear me, its extremely annoying. And when I went to the verizon store itself they were no help to me what so ever.
