2.3.3 software patch update (Don't get too excited) and my experiences so far.

I have been having some issues with my Droid X since the 2.3.3 update. I deleted apps and hard reset my phone amongst other things. Last Saturday night, the phone froze up while selecting a wallpaper.....after a bunch of running around a manager at a flagship Verizon store was able to go into the boot menu and hard reset the phone again. The manager noted that the software crashed on my phone and she had done 4 master resets on her Samsung Fascinate over the last year. After a couple of days, it started acting sluggish and power cycling only helped for a couple of hours.

A blogger on this site wrote, recently, that he spoke to to a level 1 and 2 Verizon tech's and one of them said that a software patch for Android 2.3.3 is going to be issued any day now. I took that as good news, but decided to call Verizon myself and see what was up. I spoke to a level 1 tech and he transferred me to a 'Droid Specialist' and she contacted Motorola while I was on hold. After she spoke with the Motorola person, she told me that Motorola officially isn't preparing a software patch and also said that Verizon Wireless has no knowledge of one coming in the near future. She said she would note my issues for future reference in case anyone else was having problems. I politely pointed out that there are issues all over the Verizon Motorola Droid X blog and on Motorola's own blog on the Droid X. A manager of the DX forum on the Motorola website said that Motorola was working on a patch but it wasn't ready yet. The nice lady offered me a replacement DX, since there was no official word that a patch was nearing release. The phone came yesterday and I transferred my battery and SD card and powered it up and activated it. It worked MUCH BETTER than my other DX. The functionality of the OS was better as a whole and the phone and a lot of the glitches I had noticed on my old phone were gone on this one. The calendar works as advertised, my playlists for music now function correctly, Bluetooth connects instantly etc. I realize when you get a 'like new' phone, it's a roll of the dice. I got a good one this time and am sending the old one back.

I have been told, more than once, on this blog that I should wipe my phone before the software update. I ended up wiping it not too long after based on advise I read on this blog. I am not rooted and have a minimum of apps installed and still had problems. This phone is advertised by Motorola and Verizon as being able to have anything thrown it and it will handle it because of it's impressive processing power. As many apps as you want etc. Yet the main theme I see on the DX blog is to check and remove apps that may be causing the phone to malfunction. I realize Android is an open source OS and anyone can publish an app & know there are some bad ones out there.

There are people, including myself, who have had problems since the update. Some don't take the correct steps and have phone issues because of that, other people read the blogs, do the right things and some still have trouble with their phone.

The techs at Verizon were great to deal with.  The 'Droid Specialist' took the time to speak to someone at Motorola about my issues. Her decision, based on my issues was to offer me a 'like new' phone. The 'like new' phone is great, no issues that I can think of actually other than the hardware keys stay brightly lit when in the night dock. Thanks Verizon!

i'd be leery of downloading a patch as i've had "0" issues.

you also received a replacement phone as clean as you'll ever see it.

when my son had to get his replaced it came with gb updated and he's had no issues.

My replacement has been really good since I got it. I saw the Gingerbread version and new Blur on the Droid 3 today. It looks pretty cool.

I have had so many issues since I updated phone to this software.  I can't send email through my account....can't even locate the aol account to delete it.  I will attempt the store to troubleshoot.  Lesson learned. ....should have left the phone alone and never done the software update!!!!!!!!!  Other issue is that I was attempting download of the forum and it needs wi-fi to download....that never was an issue either......can't even delete the attempt to download!  Very frustrating...

I can see why that issue would be frustrating. I would like to help with this issue. What is happening when you try to send email? Also, you said you can't locate your AOL account. Have you looked in Settings>Accounts? It should list any email accounts you have setup there. If it is not there, try clearing your cache from your email. Settings>Applications>Manage Applications>All>Email>Clear data/cache. Then try to setup your email again.

What size file were you trying to download?

I installed the update last night and am now wishing I had read blogs before I did it. My phone is now frozen, I can't use the touch screen except the one time it allows it after start up and then it goes black. This is really making me miss my iPhone 3G. I am head to the store today to see what they can do. Would call customer service but I have no phone.

Thanks for sharing your experience.

If the relacement phone is working flawlessly, my guess would be that you had an apps installed that didn't want to get along with Gingerbread. In fact, from what I have seen, almost all Droid misfuntions, and not only the Droid X, is a faulty apps. If you put back the apps you had on the old Droid X and it starts to mess with your new DX, look at the apps.

I got a Certified Like New Phone last week and for the first couple of days it was great. It came pre loaded with the Google + app and the Google Huddle widget. After 2 days or so, the Google + icon pops up several times a day asking me to sign in. When I link my main email acct to sign in, the next screen tells me that it's a beta app in testing and I need an invitation to join?!?!?!?!? **bleep**. This happens most when my phone is powered up but asleep. When I hit the power button at the top, the Google + screen is up asking which email account I want to sign into Google + with. Last night the screen became non responsive twice last night. I checked all my apps I've downloaded (about 10) and deleted anything that wasn't compatible with 2.3.3 and downloaded new different versions of those apps that were compatible with 2.3.3. Did a soft reset and nothing changed. I'm not pleased with 2.3.3 at all.
