Yes, many of us know how to change it to cdma to stop the phones from crashing, but we pay for 4g and have to settle for the 3g...that is not a fix.

Ive noticed my 4G & 3G drop once in awhile. And in many older buildings I drop to 3G alot due to signal being blocked by old wiring ect.

I tried to put up a link to an article on Android Police, but the link included the word for urination that rhymes with hisses and even links are edited here. Interesting article about 4G issues. http://www.androidpolice.com/2011/09/22/dear-verizon-your-4g-phones-all-have-data-connectivity-probl...

Someone started a thread (not I) in the Moto forum about the article. The responses on Androidpolice after it are entertaining.

I live in an area that is NOT 4G.  Yet I have this problem.  My data connection will just drop for no reason.  Sometimes switching to Airplane mode and back will correct it, and sometimes I have to re-boot the phone.  I seriously doubt this is just a 4G issue.  I think it is an issue of the phone "losing" it's connection to the sim card; even though it is still there.

I had similar problem, I was in an "extended area" and would get no data service at all, had to chnage phone setting to CDMA only and make sure data roaming was clicked on under battery/data delivery, solved the problem, get 3 G only but that is better than nothing. Crazy thing is I had to figure this out myself, tech support could not figure it out, even had to swap out phones

was it ever fixed on the Thunderbolt? The reason I ask is...

1) Prefer HTC Droids phones (although this phone is pretty kick a**)

2) If it was fixed on the TB, then there is reason to believe it will be fixed on the Bionic as well...eventually

I ordered 2 Bionic phones over the phone on 9/8.  Received and activated them on 9/12.  Phone A took several tries just to get activated.  Phone B did not.  Both phones worked what I'd say was really well for about 2 days.  Phone A started experiencing intermittent data problems as many of you had described on about day 3, but could be resolved with the various workarounds also mentioned.  Phone B seemed to have very minor data issues or ones that mostly resolved on their own.  By about day 7 phone A was driving me crazy with the drops - and the workarounds that had worked previously did nothing to repair the connection now.  On day 11 I brought phone A to the VZW store to show them.  They could not get the data back either.  At first they were unaware of any issues with Bionic specifically despite a couple of store employees that also owned the Bionic.  Ultimately, the employee found something online (unsure of source) that stated there was a known software issue and that would be resolved at some unspecified time in November.  I left the store having no data connection.  Day 12 - traveled out of town in 3G only area.  Phone B had strong 3G data.  Phone A still had nothing.  Day 13 - Finally decided to try to exchange the phone for another Bionic.  Employee did some fiddling with the sim card, battery, rebooted and magically the 4G came back.  Certain that the phone would eventually drop the data again, I left phone in the store for over an hour, ran some errands, came back and it was still on and according to them, had not gone out.  Now, despite me having been 48+ hours with no data, they would not give me a replacement phone claiming they could not reproduce the issue.  Reluctantly, I drove home with my Bionic and as if by divine intervention, the data promptly & permanently went out again.  Mind you, phone B has had data this whole time.  Frustrated, I called VZW and they assured me I should've been able to get a replacement under the 14 day no hassle return policy. To make a long story short, I went back to the store and after an hour of arguing (and now the employees say this happens on their Bionic all the time and it's probably a network issue), I got a new Bionic and new SIM card.  It's been 3 days and I have not lost data connectivity once on the new replacement phone.  All good, right?  No.  Now phone B is starting to do the same thing, more frequently day by day.  Dare I say, I think the phones are defective.

I will take no offense...someone please enlighten me why I should believe this is a software issue or a network issue when 2 identical phones are running the same software on the same network and one phone works while the other does not?  New phone (fingers crossed) is still working 100%.  Phone B which was previously working at 98% is now starting to progressively get worse by the day.  What should I do?

i would go to that same store with Phone B...my guess is they would remember you and the issue you presented and would perform the same troubleshooting as they did on Phone A.

Your issue, along with the headphone jack issue seems to be some devices, but not all...which clearly indicates faulty device. You bring up a good point, same phone and same network yet two different outcomes which indicates that. Take Phone B back to the same store...being a user of almost every Droid Verizon ever offered, the whole 'bad batch of phones' seem to be something that actually happens. I got the Bionic the first week it came out and encountered every single issue mentioned on this board, primarily the data and media sound, i have not exchanged it yet since the issues are not as frequent as time passes, but the exchange policy works! Ive knocked it for several years but youre essentially getting a phone that has been inspected more than a new device.

Good luck zman!
