4G LTE Signal goes white and data connection lost

In the last 3-4 weeks I've started to have problems with my Droid Bionic 4G LTE loosing data connectivity intermittently in the Minneapolis / St. Paul VerizonWireless area.  Has anyone else been experiencing this problem as well?  The connectivity is consistently hit and miss throughout the entire metro and suburbs areas.  4G LTE connection good for 5-10 mins with data connectivity (blue signal color on the 4G LTE) and then the 4G LTE turns from blue to white and the data connection is lost!  Any ideas what could be causing this problem.  I have a friend with the exact same problem, so I'm pretty confident that it is not the phone, but rather Verizon Wireless' network.  Note that the phone generally (98% of the time) retains the 4G LTE signal, but the "data" connectivity seems to "disconnect".  Over subscription issue on the backside of the VzW Network?

I upgraded to Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0.4 for the Droid Bionic (the leaked version).  I've not had single problem since.  I would highly recommend this if your still experiencing problems.  Of course, I'm not responsible for anyone who accidently "bricks" their phone.  However, this being said it is realatively easy to upgrade to the new leaked ICS 4.0.4.  And it is possible to roll back to Gingerbread 2.3.4 if you need to.  Check out videos on Youtube.com

I have nothing to add, but this exact thing is happening to me. I loved my Bionic until this started. Now I'm just mad as hell that I'm paying for data service I am not getting. The phone is no longer smart. I'm on my 2nd Bionic and 2nd SIM card. The problem is as bad as ever and Verizon phone techs still act like it's a brand new thing. Like I'm the only one having the problem. How stupid do they think we are?

Same problem here. Right after the 905 update...Verizon tech told me to factory reset my phone. I refuse to do that seeing as how many people are having this same issue.

Same thing happening here in Charlotte, NC on my Bionic.  I have nothing new to add to this discussion, but want to make sure I'm marked "Present" for this complaint.  My wife's Razr never loses connectivity.  The intermittent 4g data connection on my Bionic, however, started about the time of the .905 update. I already had the battery and data settings where they needed to be for constant data connection. I've tried the airplane mode fix, the battery pull fix, the sim card pull fix, and combinations of the three fixes.  All seem to work for less than a day, then back to the same old problem.  I'm not going to waste an hour of my life going through customer service because all their solutions (refurbed Bionic, Razr, or new sim card) all seem to be non-starters as a solution.  I loved the pre-.905 Bionic.  I was going to wait for the official OTA ICS update, but this is becoming such an annoyance I may jump on the ICS .232 leak and be done with it - voided warranty or not.

I've been having this problem with my Bionic since day 1.  Verizon has been no help what so ever.

The first day I got the phone, I didn't have any connection for 3 hours.  We took it back to the store and the gave me a new sim card.  But I couldn't use it in 4G LTE, it just wouldn't work.  So finally, after a few months I went back to Verizon.  They switched the sim card again and saw that it still dropped data, they decide to send me a replacement phone.

The replacement phone I got in March had the same problems, but it wasn't as bad.  To avoid the hassle of dealing with Verizon I kept the phone.  Well last week, I'm on the replacement phone and the volume just stops working.  So back to the store I go for them to send me ANOTHER replacement phone.

This is my 3rd Bionic since November.  Now I'm having the same issues with the data, and it's 10x worse then what it was with the other 2 Bionics.  I'm so sick of this replacement phone business... it's obviously something in the manufacturing of this phone, otherwise there wouldn't be so many people with the same problems.

I'm going back to the store tonight, and I'm going to demand an upgrade.  If Verizon doesn't make right by this, I'll take my business elsewhere.

*edit - my husband has the Nexus and NEVER has a problem with his data.  No wonder they don't sell the Bionic anymore.

Update. I got the replacement phone last week, a refurbished Bionic, and right away the phone had problems with connecting to 4G. Switched over to 3G and it works better. Not only did the replacement phone not solve the issue, but you are required to reinstall all apps. Plus a lot of my contacts, pictures, and app saved data files did not transfer over to the new phone. I contacted Verizon tech support and this guy went in circles with me about in order to manage my backup online, I would have to be the primary account holder. He said I am an account member of a family plan so I can't manage my backup contact info, what??? Anyway, I went back to the Verizon store and while waiting for a rep, I went over to the phones on display and none of them could connect to 4G. I showed the rep this and she basically had this "I'm going to pretend that I don't know what the issue is" attitude. The girl would not tell me what the issue is only that it is not Verizon's fault. While she is blabbering right next to me is another customer with the same exact problem as me. The only thing else the girl offered was that I do a factory reset. Really? Why would I do a factory reset on a new phone I just got from the manufacturer? How is that going to resolve the issue.

For now, whenever I lose 4G data connectivity I do the cache reset function that was described earlier. Not sure if it was in this discussion, but I will provide the steps. Mind you I do this about 3-4 times a day but it seems to instantanously resolve the issue and I connect to 4G and downloads/alerts start to pop right away.

1. Power off phone.

2. Once phone is powered down, press and hold all three of these buttons: Power, Volume Up, Volume Down.

3. The "Boot Mode Selection Menu" will be displayed. Press Volume Down until you highlight "Recovery", then press Volume Up.

4. When Android picture shows up, press and hold both Volume Up and Volume Down.

5. Another menu will now pop up. Press Volume Down several times until you highlight "wipe cache partition", then press Power.

6. The same menu will pop up again. "reboot system now"  should be highlighted, then press Power.

Isn't it absurd that we even have to do this?  Verizon knows that there's an issue with this phone, they need to stand behind their product and do right by their customers. Thanks for the tip though.  I'll try that if I get nowhere with the Verizon manager.

To follow up on my earlier post, the verizon agent on my support call did say ICS should solve the issues as he said it has for him with his Bionic. The only problem is that I don't want the hassle of trying to revert back to factory for the official update...if it ever comes out.

It should? How f'ing long have we been waiting for ICS? Phones that came out after the bionic got upgraded to ICS.

Verizon is lying. I'll believe it when I see it!

This is better suited in a different topic.

Just an FYI. Performed the clear partition cache on the bootup screen. Has worked for the past hour. No data connection drops. I know right after I post this, it will start happening again....

Eventually you will start losing data connectivity again. I probably clear the cache partition at least 3-4 times a day. But as soon as I do it, I always have 4G connectivity right away and no dropouts while I am currently using it. I usually will do it once in the morning, during lunch, after work, and at night. It's the only thing that seems to temporarily work. I've kept it in 3G, but I still lose connection. I'm betting my money that the problem will be resolved when ICS is released.

I have the same problem with my 4g on my Droid Bionic! I was having problems getting my email in a Yahoo account, so I deleted the account and tried to add it back in thinking it would reset it. I tried to use the app with the @ sign on a red postage stamp and the phone wouldn't allow me to. So I took it in to a Verizon store and the tech suggested we reset the phone to factory settings and try again. That's when my phone went to S@#$. I found out later that there was a spat between Yahoo and Verizon and it couldn't be loaded to that app anyway. Now I can't get 4g reception but for only seconds at a time. I have put in a new SIM card, got a new phone, talked for 3-4 hours to VZN techs who have had me turn things off and turn things on. I have been in the bowels of my phone. Nothing has worked. I get so frustrated sometime I just turn  my phone back on to 3g. I spoke with the last VZN tech who told me just to turn on the airplane setting and then turn it off to let the phone search for 4g. That does little to nothing. Finally he sort of admitted that he knew this was a problem and hinted that there may be an upgrade coming out sometime to fix it but was very vague. I wish I had never messed with that email app. my 4g Droid Bionic has become my occasional 4g Droid Box-o-sh%#! I know nothing will get better from my post but I feel better! Come on 2year agreement hurry up so I can get an iphone! I will settle for a 3g phone that works at this point.

The upgrade they're talking about is to the new OS, ICS ice cream sandwich.  There's a lot of of talk about it here and elsewhere.  Supposed to come out maybe before the end of the month.  You also might try wiping your cache.  If you search this thread I think the instructions are in here somewhere or on the Motorola Forum site.

What pisses me off is that verizon is more interested in how much more money they can get by changing data plans, than they are at  fixing a known problem. I guess they figure they have us by (edited to comply with VZW Community Tos) because of the contract.

Why was this deleted ?

>Post edited to comply with VZW ToS. Discussion concerning rooting is not permitted< I'm not adverse to taking risks, but I really don't want to void the warranty.  HOWEVER, I am getting seriously frustrated with 4G dropping after finding 1 site.  Motorola and Verizon are dissing their Bionic customers.  Not cool.

(Edited post to comply with VZW Community ToS)...and then spent the evening reloading all my apps, getting them setup, adding accounts, and all the other rigors that go along with basically doing a factory reset.  And I'll have to do it all again to get back on the upgrade path after the "real" ICS OTA comes out in the next 2-6 weeks.  The good news is that the 4g signal is as steady as it was in the early days - no more lost data signal.

It seems like Verizon is spending way too much time deleting posts and zero time what so ever in providing information to its customers as to what the problem is and how it is to be fixed. Shame on Verizon.

>I would like to address your post. Moderators are not techs, we are not Customer Service Reps. We are here to keep threads on topic, keep the board clear of profanity and personal attacks and to address the posts that violate the Verizon Wireless Terms of Service.

As for providing information to aid customers with their issue, this site has never been presented as a place for customers to look for or expect help from VZW Technical or Customer Service Reps.  This is a peer to peer site where customer will help other customers. On occasion, a rep may come through to help with posts, but there are many, many more ways to get a more expedient response and solution; Twitter, Facebook, 800-922-0204, or even the Contact Us option in the upper right of this screen.

I hope I was able to help you better understand the structure of this forum.<

Right, so as a peer to peer site, we the customers, who are not getting any assistance from its provider (who has not provided none, zero help what-so-ever on this major issue) are providing ways to overcome the solution on our own, and if you're not providing a solution to the matter, then you are only adding to the problem by interfering with our conversations.
