4g randomly turning off on Droid 4

So recently when I'm using my Droid 4, the 4g icon will go from blue to white and my data will stop working. It happens in areas that I usually have 4g and when I haven't moved an inch so I don't think it's because of loss of connection, but I could always be wrong. My mom, who has the Droid Razr, never has this happen to her, so I think it may be an issue with my phone. Is anyone else having this problem, and is there any way to fix it? I can usually get to work again by turning my phone off then back on, but it'd be a pain in the butt to have to do that every time. Any suggestions?

This happens to me too, and Verizon does not acknowledge ever hearing of it before. I think the problem is it is not downshifting to 3G when it should

My phone just recently stopped connecting to 4G or 3G. I also get an icon next to my network connection which shows a memory card and a diagonal line thru the memory card. The only way to remove it is to reboot the phone. It seems to happen about every 12 hours. Does anyone know how to resolve this? I have called Verizon and gave them the information but I have not heard back from them.

The error you're seeing isn't a memory card issue, its an issue with your phone not recognizing your SIM card. The issue is either with the card (someone touched the contacts) or the contacts on the device itself(unlikely).
What I would suggest is to open the back of your phone, take out the SIM card, make sure both the card and the device contacts are clean, and re-insert the card.

Holy smokes! My heart goes out to anyone that ever has to remove the back panel of a DROID 4 and then attempt to successfully put it back on!

I have had my Droid 4 since May 1, & mine started doing same thing about 2 weeks ago. My husband has the razr maxx & just got ICS update 6/30/12. He said that his phone was doing the same thing right before he got the update. So not to get anyone's hopes up, but maybe it has to do with the update for Droid 4. But still very annoying & hopefully won't have to deal with it much longer. Just wish that Verizon would keep us up 2 date on what the hell they are doing in the background & what we should expect, like an actual release date of ICS update & not "Q3" that Motorola has on their site.

I have also recently had many problems with data connection. i will have no connection or the phone will just switch to 4g or 3g all in the space of a few minutes. I have had the phone replaced and sim card to no avail. I do not use wireless or play games on the phone. I am really irritated. Phone was just switched as of Friday this is monday, and still doing the same thing.

Has anyone's phone been working any better? It still wont downshift into 3G life it should when necessary and 3G wont work at all if I manually switch it on, but the 4G seems to be holding a bit better

I have experienced this issue with my Droid 4 also. I have had mine since February and this just started happening frequently about 3 weeks ago. I started powering my phone off and on but it is starting to occur daily. I am in a really good 4g area and it also occurs when you switch to "cdma only". I actually just got a replacement because the battery was starting to drain quickly. I know 4g phones batteries aren't the best but I had to start charging my phone twice a day. Besides i have yet to receive a software update. I believe I may just call Motorola to make them aware.

I too am having this same issue with my Droid 4. I contacted tech support and supposedly they are aware of this problem and there is a software download that is supposed to be released at the end of July. We'll see. For now I guess we are all stuck paying for data packages that we cannot use. That's awesome!

They never told me that there was a software download. I can now get
pretty solid 4G if in city, but 3G is nonexistant if I go to CDMA only
or out of network. I think that is the real issue, let me know if you
can get 3G. When 4G is lost, instead of downshifting it just loses
network completely.

Yeah I called Verizon yesterday (7/23/12) and spoke to someone who said that the issue is under investigation and that there's supposed to be a software update coming out around the end off the month. I'm in a good area for 4G and a few friends of mine have different phones and have no issues with their 4G coverage. Mine does go to 3G from time to time depending on where I am, but I spend a majority of my time with the white 4G displayed at which time I have no data, only cell coverage. I have unlimited data, so that's not the issue. I hope they fix this soon. Its been a great phone otherwise.

I have been having this same problem with my Droid4 since the first day I bought it, at the end of June. I will open an app, the signal bars turn from blue to grey, and there is no data connection. It happens about 85% of the time that I try to use the phone for something other than making a call or texting. I restart the phone and still have the same problems.
Recently I've been having issues connecting to calls that aren't saved in my contacts. I'll hit the green "connect" button and nothing happens. Then about 1 minute later my phone will call the number I tried dialing initially. Has anyone else had this problem or something similar?
This data connection issue is extremely frustrating and I hope that Verizon gets it fixed ASAP. I am regretting "upgrading" from my Droid2, which I never had these issues with.

I've had the Droid 4 since it came out and this was never a problem until about 2-3 weeks ago. Makes me think it isn't the phone and something Verizon did. They really need to fix this though, I'm really getting tired of paying for data I can't even use. I do find if I turn off LTE it will hold a 3G connection most of the time, but what's the point in having a 4G phone that only works on 3G. Looking for a fix ASAP Verizon!

This was my fix too. I just put the phone in CDMA only. But like you what is the point of 4G. I did get a credit for data on this months bill. But that was after calling and complaining 5 times, and them sending new sim card and replacement phones. Now i was supposed to get a phone call back from Tech support but that never happened. Getting frustrated.

So my wife's phone has had the same issues the last few weeks. Here is how I fixed it and everything has worked great for about the past hour. Settings - Data Manager - Global Data Roaming Access - Allow access for all trips needs to be selected.
That's it, should work after that

I definitely would not recommend that because it allows data roaming. If
your roams for data unexpectedly, you could be faced with roaming charges.
Roaming charges are expensive.

There is no such thing as "roaming data" in the USA, all data in the USA is considered "Home Network". The only time you would be in any trouble is if you lived very close to, or went to a border country without first swithching off Global Data Roaming. I have confirmed this with customer service.
