I got one too and I have been researching it but have only come across people who got it and are asking about it. No one seems to know.

selecting "more" gave 4 categories, presidential, serious/dangerous, local......to check, i unchecked all of them.

if the world's caving in, i don't want a text message while i'm trying to outrun the nuclear blast.

I too got one......  Sure would be nice if Verizon would give a "heads up" as to what is going on and more information about it ?

It was just a "TEST" ... that's all ...  Probably coupled with the pending software release that allows Verizon to send these Emergency Alerts that will be able to WAKE UP the phone .. (not sure if they mean POWER UP or just WAKE UP from SLEEP). Time will tell.

yes it was a test but it allowed me to select any of 4 categories (or none) that i wanted to get alerts from.

it was a different sound notification than email, text or voice mail.

Thanks everyone for your inquiries!

Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) is a new service that allows you to receive several different types of alerts. These are managed by local, state and federal government agencies in partnership with the FCC and FEMA. Alerts will consist of Presidential, Imminent threat (weather, geophysical, other), and Amber alerts. Read here for more info on the alerts. I realize the Droid X is not listed as a compatible device, but it is.

To turn off these alerts:

From the main screen, touch Apps
Tap Emergency
Tap Menu
Tap Emergency Alert Settings
Tap Receive Alerts
Select from below options
Note: Presidential Level Alert can not be opted out.

I hope that answers your questions!

Hello VegasKnights!

Thanks for the post! The "apps" can be viewed when you press the triangle with a circle around it. I hope that helps!
