I can assure you, it is not shipping with 2.2. The update will come shortly afterward.

I would be inclined to think so too.  I have never even seen the Tech2 webpage before yesterday.  Someone else pointed it out to me.   Sometimes it's just fun to think about what could happen.  After all, waiting for July 15th sometimes seams like an eternity!

Trust me Dirk, it will ship with 2.1 and 2.2 is coming not too long after. Too many rumors :smileyvery-happy:

Not sure if you've seen this:

Yes Butthead, I had seen that test.   Can't wait for Android 2.2 to be pushed onto my Droid X.   Well, actually I can wait, I'm a pretty patient guy.

I can still hear my mother when I was a kid, and I would wish for time to pass quicker, (as in I wish August would hurry up and get here so we can get 2.2) she would say "Don't wish your life away"  As I have gotten older, I see the truth in that.  Life if really pretty short now, so I remain.....

Yup, that's me.  You're correct, I never did "pull the trigger" on getting the O2.   I really wanted to like it, but by the time my upgrade date came around, some of the issues with it made me hold off.   Next, I looked at the EVO, but don't like getting phones on launch day just because I want to wait and see if any "issues" pop up.   Well, a couple did and  I held off, next thing you know, it's backordered!..  Plus I was really  struggling with fact I would have to switch to Sprint.  Loved the fact that it was 4G and they have 4G here in Hawaii where I live.

But then the Droid X reared it's beastly head,  and here I am.   Really looks like it will be my next phone.  Looking forward to Android 2.1 and then 2.2 later in the summer. I saw the speed test comparison video and it appears that when the "X" gets 2.2, it's gonna fly!   So, here I am,

I remember talking with someone at  a Verizon store last week... And the lady mentioned that the Droid X will be able to be a Wifi Hotspot. I figure she is just talking about the new firmware or what have you. So if she is right.. maybe it will come with it (Doubt it.. since there are tests still being done)  but it would be neat. My dad is actually waiting for the Droid X so I guess I will see first hand soon enough, too.

Though, I cannot help but wonder as of now how Verizon plans to deal with the Wifi Hotspot feature in Froyo.. Probably just ask for $20 more a month I assume? Atleast that's what the lady mentioned at the store, but I still don't know how to take what she was giving (Info wise)... Seems pretty pointless, but I guess we'll learn soon enough.

Give us 2.2 now~ :smileyhappy:

Yeah I can't believe we walk on on nails in hell waiting to get that phone(omnia 2) only to be dissappointed once it was released. 5 months to be exact. That was a great thread you started. Now don't get me wrong , the O2 is a great phone but just had the wrong software on it. Imagine if it had android on it. I just didn't realize how bad Windows Mobile could contaminate a good phone. They  say once you go android u never go back. Sorry to get off of subject but anyways hope you enjoy your new Droid X. I was leaning toward the Droid X but now that the  samsung fascinate is officially announced on Verizon, I just don't know. The Fascinate is what the O2 should have been. Im starting to look at the Fascinate as if it is The Omnia 3(with Android).

I have a copy of the official Launch Guide for Verizon and I guarantee you, it will ship with the 2.1!

Yes, I have the Verizon Droid X Launch package and the Droid X User Guide and they both indicate Android 2.1 is the OS.  The Launch Package shows many Droid X accessories to be available also.

If anyone hasn't seen it, let me know and I'll post it here.

Yes yellowboy, that thread was quite a ride, that's for sure.

Yes I agree about the software, WM just isn't cutting it, and WM 7 may be to little to late.  Microsoft may have sat on their thumbs to long.  Android just blew past them like they were standing still.  Heck, Android even surprised Apple.

Also, nothing is "cast in stone" when it comes to me purchasing a phone.  I've definitely been leaning towards the Droid X but that doesn't mean the Fascinate (or any other phone for that matter) is out of the running.  The one thing that I'm 99.99% sure of is that my next phone will be an Android phone.

So, at this point I'm,

They aren't going to ship with 2.2 because in case there are any problems where they would have to develop an ota they can have all of that out of the way and as many bugs as possible(if any) and then send out 2.2 so it works properly
