Adding a pause and then password for voicemail

I have not been able to find in the User Guide how to add a pause and then my password to retreive voicemails, nor can I see how to edit speed dial #1, which is the default for vmail.  Any ideas?

Thanks.

Go to settings > call > voicemail settings > voicemail number. Edit at the end by insert one or two pauses and then your password. Test after each edit to ensure that it works. I have seen some people write that you need a # symbol at end.

For example (the p or the comma is your pause indicater and the 1111 would be your password)
*86pp1111
*86,,1111

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

Quick question: When I go into Settings>Call, the Voicemail Settings option is grayed out and inaccessible. I also noticed that nowhere on my phone does it indicate Verizon Wireless as the carrier, except for the branding on the hardware (and the bloatware, ha ha). Even if I go into Settings>About Phone>Network>Operator Name, it says Unknown. Is it because it's a global phone? Anyone else see the same thing here?

Awesome, thanks!  FYI, for those, who might be as ignorant as me, I had the same secondary problem as Sydney in that the option was initially greyed out, but I set Vocemail to 'My Carrier', and it then became accessible.  Also, set it up using 2 'P's and did not need to add the hash (#) mark.

I just migrated over yesterday from a Blackberry Storm 2 with which I had a love/hate relationship, in the end mostly hate.  So far, The DI2 blows the doors off of the BBS2 WRT speed and apps.  I have Angry Birds!  And, I can view my Office documents, which is a bit more useful than AB.  Things I still need to figure out (not sure if they are even options with this phone)

     - keep clock displayed, when charging (like bedside mode in the Blackberry), which is nice, when staying in a hotel (one option would be to set Display to never turn off, but that would have to be done each time, whereas a universal setting. like when charging, would be handy)

     - delete all accumulated emails, instead of one at a time (like Blackberry 'Delete Prior')

     - have deleted email on the DI2 also delete from server - so, when I come back from a week on the road, I do not have 1000 junk emails waiting to be deleted AGAIN.

Not sure the email options are available on this phone, since the BB did have a very nice email interface, even for POP3.

Again, thank you for the VERY fast response.   Having the password enter automacially is REALLY handy, when driving.

Okay, so it looks like "Desk Clock" might do the trick?

Thanks, Bill ... selecting My Carrier did the trick!

I migrated from BlackBerry too, and I love the Inc 2! Everything is so smooth and fast, and the battery life is really good.

If you're using the stock email app, did you notice you can set poll frequency for peak and off-peak times? For example, you can set it to check every 30 minutes during waking hours, and every four hours when you're sleeping.

Enjoy your new device!

This doesn't work on my wife's Inc 2...I can program in the password just as I did on my Inc 1, which works great, but her's won't show the extra digits or dial them when calling voicemail.  I've tried rebooting the phone with no luck.  I removed all numbers from the "voicemail settings" and it wouldn't dial anything then I put back the numbers and it still wouldn't dial anything.  I re-edited the settings and just entered the *86 and it still didn't dial but then it just cam back after a minute or two.  I reprogrammed the password and waited a long while and still will not dial the password.

My wife is very non technical and really needs any short cut I can provide...Please help me figure this out!

Have you setup the voicemail on your phone, SydneyK? I would have thought it would carryover from your previous phone. Your phone might say unknown if you are still using an Alltel plan.

Yes, it did carry over. My greeting and password are the same, and I've received VM messages. I don't have my Alltel plan anymore ... I had to switch when I went from individual to family share. The other line on my plan hasn't set up VM yet, and the account is in his name so we could get a discount, so maybe that's why? Strange.

Hmmmm...no clue SydneyK. I know users with an Alltel plan will have an Unknown as their carrier name, but if you are truly on a Verizon plan now, that is odd. I am not real familiar with phone that have global capabilities. Does it change if you reprogram the phone? You know the whole *228, option 1 & reboot the phone.

I know that I can access the voicemail settings on the Thunderbolt and the Droid Eris and add the password.

The other option is to create a contact in the People app with the voicemail number and add the password information there. You would have to remember to use that contact whenever you call into the voicemail system.

I really need to wander over to a VZW store and play with the new phones. :smileyhappy: :smileywink:

Oh, almost forgot. You may want to try to get the primary account owners setup with VM. See if that helps. Also I think I have read somewhere that if you don't setup the VM in a certain time frame that VZW can remove it from the line.
