To close the broswer quickly without forcing it to close is to hit:

Menu --> Windows(I think) --> hit the X on the right side of the windows that are open.  It will put you back at the Google search page and if you hit back it'll close the browser.

Personally I use Dolphin browser

well, i read an article (PC Mag i think...i cant recall) and on other forums that task killers arent really necessary.  According to the article the driods have a build in task killer in the code to stop tasks once completed.  I also heard that it drains the battery.  So i tested the phone performance with and without a task killer.   Without a task killer, the phone seemed to work just fine for most of the day, but noticed that towards the end of the day, the internal memory was almost full (i run System Panel app to view this, really nice app) which made texting a bit slow...my apps didnt run as smooth...and the browers was definitly slower...it was running like too many things were open.  So the following week, i installed the adv. task killer, set it to autokill every hour or so.  i noticed immediately that the phone ran better and not as sluggish, but also noticed that some apps like the weather service kept messing up (im assuming that some kind of internal task was being killed that didnt allow the weather to properly update, there are setting for this sort of thing).  So i decided to kill task as i need them and turned off the autokill feature.  My phone works great now...

this is my experience with task killer...i like having it on my phone...but i do not have set to autokill which perhaps drains the battery...luckly i havent runned into problems with battery...

hope this helps, and if i find that article i will post it....

There is a number of mixed opinion on this subject but I have came to conclusion that if used correctly a task killer can be beneficial, try excluding all required apps that device need for the primary functions like Voice Command, Alarm & Timer and any other apps that needs to continue to run in background, also to minimize battery usage I suggest to use the option to close app automatically when device is only put asleep.

My suggestion is to give Advance Task Killer a try and see how it works out for you before making a decision if it is beneficial for you.

I prefer AutoKiller.  It's more of a memory manager than a task killer in spite of it's name.  Task Killers can terminate programs in an untidy fashion.  Set AutoKiller to ultimate and that's it.  No need to worry about ignore lists etc.  It runs best if the phone is rooted but I don't think it has to be.

I tried ES Task Killer and I didn't have much luck with,  it wants to close more system apps than ATK and also I experienced app closing of apps that was added to the ignore list already...  It was a shame too because I did like the overall software.

You can cut that down by simply using the Kill when back light goes off feature, this will only run when light goes off and it does not require as much power because it doesn't have to check regularly.

I see that this is still a topic that some people disagree on and agree on to have task killer.  Doubt you'll ever get one straight forward answer where everyone agree's.  I don't use task killer though.

I don't see what Advanced Task Killer does. I installed it on my new Droid X, running 2.2.  When I click KILL selected apps it kills everything I have checked.  I can then go back to my home page and wait 30 seconds.  When I open ATK more than half of the apps are back up and running, even though I did nothing with the phone.  What good is that?

You need to configure the app, set the auto close option to have it close apps everytime the backlight is powered off..  Here is my settings that works well...

I already have the program set to kill when the screen is off but I do not have it set on Crazy.  I will try that - Thanks

The reason half your apps restart after killing is because android sees free memory as wasted memory. Things will reload to refill the gap. The difference with the autokiller app is that it actually changes the low memory limit so the system itself closes non-running apps earlier but within the parameters of the os so they don't restart. To use this feature I believe root is required however, it does have a manual kill feature which works the same as other task killers in the market. Imo most task killers are worthless and cause more problems than they solve, mostly because most users don't use them properly though they can be helpful if you have a poorly written app that refuses to shut down on it's own.
