After 2.2, this phone is trash

2.2 was recently pushed out to my phone, and I couldn't be unhappier.
On 2.1 my battery would last pretty much all day, draining to the point that it asks to connect a charger by maybe 7 or 8pm. By then I usually am home and its not a problem.
Now when I drive to work, just from home to work, 45 minute drive, the battery drains to 70%. No phone calls, no texts, no usage what so ever, all email syncing disabled, and task killer set to autokill as frequently as possible. By noon, the phone is dead. Powered off, won't turn on, completely 100% dead. I have to charge it overnight to get a full charge again. My usage habits haven't changed at all.
I've contacted Verizon support and they can't help me at all. I talked to three different people who walked me through battery troubleshooting tips, the same thing every time, then "escalated" the call to someone else who did the same thing, and then "escalated" it again. Musical chairs I guess. I'll visit the store tomorrow and see if they are willing to help me or not. I really regret letting the phone update now. I hate this piece of junk. Anyone have any solutions to help?

Many users have said that factory reset improved their battery life significantly after they got Froyo. Unfortunately, I'm not one of them. Maybe you'll be.

You have the answer to your battery issue in your post.

ditto dabu and budone. say that statement (the one budone underlined) out loud. "as frequently as possible" just sounds like it's using A LOT of resource. uninstall it and give it a try. also, go through all of your settings. don't synch news, stocks, weather, etc. you can also have your email check less often, etc, etc. i made sure after the update to set everything back up as i had it (had to change a couple things that reverted to default settings and make sure the new bloatware was not synching) and i uninstalled app killer. my device performs just as before (but faster) and battery life is the same. if it doesn't help, you can always reinstall that killer.

its pretty minimal. For example, when i woke up this morning, i my phone was at 100%, i drove to work didn't use the phone at all, just sitting in my cup holder for 45 minutes, and when i got to work the battery was down to 70%.

Although I have heard extremely bad service can kill your battery even if all other measures have been exhausted.
Go to a vzw store and see if you can get a new battery. If its still dying rapidly then you must have some settings wrong.

Maybe the battery, but I wonder if there isnt something running thatyou are not aware of. I am at 5:30 hrs of up time, some minimal usage (20 minutes) checking email and have 88% battery life.

My battery usage is about the same as on 2.1 if not slightly better. Searching for a good signal and apps running (or being killed all the time) can drain battery. if you have removed everything from your phone including all apps and emails, and a general battery pull doesnt fix, then yes wipe the device to factory defaults, if you still have excesive battery drain, try to get a new battery from VZW (its covered under waranty) and if that doesnt work, get a replacement device. Sorry you are having so many issues, I am loving my Froyo, once you get the battry issue figured out, I'm sure you will too.

Did you do a factory reset when you updated??
If you did, I would do the following:
1. get rid of any task killers
2. turn off auto-sync
3. Get rid of anything that does frequent updating
I have tons of widgets and email and such but some simple setting tweeks and my battery life is BETTER now.

I also am having these battery issues. Last night I went to bed with my battery about 70% charged. This morning when I woke up my phone was dead. Obviously, I wasn't using it as I was sleeping. Then I had it to about 10-15% charged, needed to run to the store, and unplugged my phone so I can take it to my car charger. Between unplugging my phone and taking it to the charger, which was 10 minutes max as I talked to my family for a little bit, my phone is dead, again.
And to the other posters here suggesting the OP to get rid of his task killer, I do not have task killer installed. After the update, with my phone ridden with problems, I did a factory reset. This helped, to an extent. I still have unwanted apps running in the background, and no, my battery did not improve at all.

What is your Uptime compared to your Awake time?
I am at 8hrs Up time and 40 minutes Awake time with 75% battery left. I have six email accounts that are syncing, along with News, and Weather. I have background data turned on which allows apps to send, receive, and sync at any time.
My phone I had to master reset many times due to another issue. But it is working as I expect.

check what budone mentioned. go into sttings, about phone, battery. your up time should be how long the phone has been on and your awake time should be how long you have actually been using it. if you turn it on and don't use it and then check it 30 minutes later and those two times are the same or real close, then you have something actually utilizing the device the entire time it is on. if it truly goes idle then it should not affect your up time and if the phones been on for an hour but you haven't used it, then your up time should be just a minute and your awake time should be 60 minutes.

Had bad battery life right after the update, but the following helped getting it back to better than before! Currently I am running a Nexus One Live Wallpaper and settings as mentioned below. My phone stays on from 7 until midnight and the battery is still at 40%!!!! Agreed this may be specific to my use, but when compared to my own use pattern this was a HUGE improvement (normally even with 2.1 i had to charge it by 11). The thing that helped the most? Read how to charge the battery at end!
Accounts & Sync:
- Turned off Backup Assistant, News & Stocks.
- Exchange is set to "As Items Arrive" during peak times, and "Manual during Off Peaks times.
- Facebook for HTC Sense is setup to sync every 4 hours (I dont use Facebook App by Facebook Inc)
- Twitter for HTC Sense is setup to sync every 4 hours
Email Syncing:
- Exchange: Peak "As Items Arrive" Off Peak "Manual"
- Hotmail 1 : Every 4 hours (I do check manually several times a day though)
- Hotmail 2: Every 4 hours (I do check manually several times a day though)
- Yahoo: Every 4 hours (I do check manually several times a day though)
- GMail: As Items Arrive all the time.
Apps Syncing:
- Android "News & Weather App" is setup to sync manually. (I dont use it, but default sync is auto)
Task Manager:
- Installed SystemPanel Lite to "monitor" processes. For all those who are obessing about killing processes, don't spend too much time on it. These process will start back up no matter what you do. With 2.2 they have changed how the core process and services work, and it does not do much good to stop them. On the contrary, by stopping them you would force the processor to do more work to start them up again and waste more battery! However, I have found that if some app is taking up too much memory, this is a good tool to terminate it. One more thing, market installed apps (which are not services) can be terminated and do stay that way.
Display:
- I don't use Auto Brightness setting. I have set it to where I am comfortable 35%. I am mostly indoors. For ppl who are outside a lot, would be a good idea to experiment between keeping it Auto or a static higher setting.
- I have all screen animations turned off. (Dont know if this helps or not.. i just find it faster this way)
How you Charge your Phone (smoking gun!):
- After the update, i was consistently noticing that within about an hour my phone would go from 100% to 86% with minimal or no use. After researching online, there are some fixes for this. I tried the charging method fix which does not need root. I let my phone charge normally until the light goes green. After that, I unplug it, turn it off and put it back on charge. It will charge for quite a bit before going green again. I repeat this again few more times. This has been the most effective improvement to my battery life. I did a test. After this charging method, I let the phone run all the way down. I used FriendStream, FourSquare, GMail, Exchange, Light browsing, waking up the phone to check time etc etc what i would do normally. I got a uptime of about 46-47 hours and an awake time of 3 hours and some minutes before it went dead!!!! My phone was off the charger from Saturday late afternoon to Monday afternoon!!!
