I am on my 3rd Incredible since the 2.2 release and since VZW is CONVINCED the 2.2 software is not the issue, I am scheduled to receive my 4th Incredible tomorrow ...

I have done everything imaginable other than rooting the phone and the issues remain (primarily the battery issues) The depressing thing is I spent $60 on an extended battery, but a minimal difference. Several wipe cleans, no 3rd party apps and no ATK but still the battery drains. The most recent issue I have now is the 1800+ songs I have on my memory card all show the same album art work for each song! That is meaningless to the overall performance I know, but still, that indicates the software has bugs.

In the past, VZW would offer a different device if the phone is exchanged 3 times or more ...but I guess VZW no longer does that? I attempted to obtain a BB Tour but was denied.

Under MENU>SETTINGS>ACCOUNTS & SYNC    what all is syncing?  Is background data check marked? What about auto-sync

When your phone is on, charge it up until the LED light turns green. Then, unplug your charger from the phone and turn the phone off. When it's off, plug it back in and you'll see a red light, that means the phone is still charging. Leave it off, charging, until it urns green again (should be 20-30 minutes). When its green again - unplug, turn it on, off, plug in again, when it's green again you're good to go.

Everything was checked (only because I did a wipe clean just now) such at the backup assist, facebook, google, news, stocks and weather but now just the backup assist, fb and google are checked.

Both background and Auto are checked as of now, but prior to the wipe clean of the phone, none of the above where checked.

If you did not have them checked prior and have no reason to now, uncheck them, charge your phone as the other poster stated and see what the results are.Watch your Awake and Uptime minutes.

I DO have them checked and I dont have an issue with my battery, but my sync schedule is not all that often during the day.

Also, how many minutes do you use the phone itself throughout the day? Do you have music running at all, whether from the SD Card or a app such as Pandora? How long is it before your screen times out? There are many small things that can be done to extend the battery life.

Music is definitely something I run all day off the SD card, before 2.2 the standard battery would last about 6 hours compared to about 2 now (but since I am at work its always plugged up)

Talk time varies ...on average its about 40-80 minutes a day (most communication is done thru email and text messaging)

The screen times out after a minute.

I agree turning off all the syncs and not doing anything on the phone will extend the battery life, thats a given but its an indication of a mediocre software, turning off all the automated processes and having to do the syncs, updates and 'babying' the phone is ridiculous and defeats the purpose of the phone supposed capabilities.

I understand with any upgrade there are issues but there was quite a bit of preperation for this and this is the outcome?

Anything else syncing??? And if so, what is the intervals for each. Like i said I have them checked and I have now 7 email addresses syncing along with news and also weather and facebook.  I get a good 13-15 hours on the standard battery

With the exception of Backup Assitant, all syncs are off. At this point the phone is doing nothing. I did the bump charge before turning off all syncs so the light was still green. I unplugged the phone since the last post and it dropped 10%.

What a pain!

Had bad battery life right after the update, but the following helped getting it back to better than before! Currently I am running a Nexus One Live Wallpaper and settings as mentioned below. My phone stays on from 7 until midnight and the battery is still at 40%!!!! Agreed this may be specific to my use, but when compared to my own use pattern this was a HUGE improvement (normally even with 2.1 i had to charge it by 11). The thing that helped the most? Read how to charge the battery at end!

Accounts & Sync:

  • Turned off Backup Assistant, News & Stocks.
  • Exchange is set to "As Items Arrive" during peak times, and "Manual during Off Peaks times.
  • Facebook for HTC Sense is setup to sync every 4 hours (I dont use Facebook App by Facebook Inc)
  • Twitter for HTC Sense is setup to sync every 4 hours

Email Syncing:

  • Exchange: Peak "As Items Arrive" Off Peak "Manual"
  • Hotmail 1 : Every 4 hours (I do check manually several times a day though)
  • Hotmail 2:  Every 4 hours (I do check manually several times a day though)
  • Yahoo:  Every 4 hours (I do check manually several times a day though)
  • GMail: As Items Arrive all the time.

Apps Syncing:

  • Android "News & Weather App" is setup to sync manually. (I dont use it, but default sync is auto)

Task Manager:

  • Installed SystemPanel Lite to "monitor" processes. For all those who are obessing about killing processes, don't spend too much time on it. These process will start back up no matter what you do. With 2.2 they have changed how the core process and services work, and it does not do much good to stop them. On the contrary, by stopping them you would force the processor to do more work to start them up again and waste more battery! However, I have found that if some app is taking up too much memory, this is a good tool  to terminate it. One more thing, market installed apps (which are not services) can be terminated and do stay that way.

Display:

  • I don't use Auto Brightness setting. I have set it to where I am comfortable 35%. I am mostly indoors. For ppl who are outside a lot, would be a good idea to experiment between keeping it Auto or a static higher setting.
  • I have all screen animations turned off. (Dont know if this helps or not.. i just find it faster this way)

How you Charge your Phone (smoking gun!):

  • After the update, i was consistently noticing that within about an hour my phone would go from 100% to 86% with minimal or no use. After researching online, there are some fixes for this. I tried the charging method fix which does not need root. I let my phone charge normally until the light goes green. After that, I unplug it, turn it off and put it back on charge. It will charge for quite a bit before going green again. I repeat this again few more times. This has been the most effective improvement to my battery life. I did a test. After this charging method, I let the phone run all the way down. I used FriendStream, FourSquare, GMail, Exchange, Light browsing, waking up the phone to check time etc etc what i would do normally. I got a uptime of about 46-47 hours and an awake time of 3 hours and some minutes before it went dead!!!! My phone was off the charger from Saturday late afternoon to Monday afternoon!!!

I am having the exact same problem. I went to Verizon store and asked about a new battery. They said they didn't know anything about any problems. What can we do. I might as well not have a phone.
